Why would my rent go up by $1,000 if Yang wins??

Rent will likely go up.

Here they gave students extra money and landlords jacked up rent by a similar amount.
Assuming there's a housing shortage.

It would fuel inflation as well.

It's why bribing certain sections of the electorate is better than trying to bribe everyone.

Such bribes may be tax cuts, social spending or whatever.

Helping tenants afford rent raises rent cost In the short term but also helps decrease shortages (if zoning isn’t the limiting factor) as it encourages development. Rent control freezes rent for existing renters but raises rent much higher for new renters and decreases supply (worsening shortages).

Yang is definitely the best candidate to beat Trump. In the admittedly very, very slim chance he wins the primary there are likely very few Democrats who wouldn't vote for him (like Bernie, he's had a career of helping people, albeit in the private sectcion), he's squeaky clean, well spoken & poised, going to decriminalize marijuana, not much to dislike. And he doesn't have the baggage Bernie will (unfairly - age & the boogey-man socialism mostly) or Biden (he's an arrogant prick and also old/senile) or Warren (being flip-floppy, late to the party on progressive policies, claiming to be Native American). And, perhaps most importantly, he is likely to get far more converts from the Republican party than any other Democrat which is important to win swing states. And he's not shrill or reactive or focused on attack rather than policy, Trump would have a hard time getting at him in a debate.

There is plenty of housing spread across the country. The UBI would help people better "bloom where they're planted" and revitalize rural areas & cities like Detroit rather than further crowded into overpriced metro areas where more opportunity is.

It would provide a safety net for people to start local businesses while working part-time.

Also, right-wingers would have to stop whining about welfare queens since we'd all be welfare queens. :D

Yeah I suspect Yang is one of the better candidates out of the minor ones.

Yang would need to pair up with a woman.

If Sanders wins the nomination, who is the likely VP?

Hopefully not Warren - then again, is there anyone else? I mean Yang isn't that established, and Tulsi may not be a good idea in that role.
Furthermore, even if Sanders doesn't get JFK'ed, he may have health issues during the presidency and retire.

A woman needs to be on the ticket.

The best chance to beat Trump isn't the only criteria though. Since there's a high chance anything could beat Trump, it's a good opportunity to nominate someone from farther left. That's what make this primary so interesting: how far left will they go?

If Sanders wins, his Vice-President choice will be very important though, since that person will probably be the front runner in 4 to 8 years. And I guess it could be literally anybody (or I just can't tell).

There's always AOC in 4-8 years.

Yeah when I found out she'd resigned my reaction was... "What?! Why?!? Because affair/sex scandal?? So effing what???"

I don't get it. Since when is a bog-standard sex scandal alone enough to get a politician to resign? Aren't we way past that naïve brand of Puritanical idealization in politics at this point? And if not, why not?

The house rules on this were strengthened last year in response to #MeToo. Pelosi asked her to resign because of the sex stuff.

I think there are two things at work here. Having sex with staffer(s) as a congressperson or while running for congress should be an irreparably negative pursuit. Men do this all the time and it needs to be treated as the abuse of power it is.

Now, her ex and the GOP people spreading all her nude pics are absolutely disgusting too, and that's the other (maybe larger at this point) part of this.

As someone who thinks Dems need to be out in front on this, I am glad she resigned. The prominince and abuse of sex with staffers in DC is gross and we gotta work to put a stop to the time honored tradition. But how she's been treated is garbage and knowing Republicans all work under a different set of rules regarding sex scandals and assault sucks big time.

Hm, I didn't know at all about her. But when even just googling her name brings you said nude pics, I doubt she was viable any longer as a politician.
Which is bad, obviously, but to be expected.

Eh, I don't think the nude pics would cost her. She's the first (actually I don't think she is lol) of what will probably be hundreds of politicians over this century who will have nude pics online. Republicans would have harangued her for it but Dems just don't care at this point and nude leaks are so common they just sort of warrant a shrug from most people these days. But sleeping with staffers is a big labor abuse.

I just experienced a weird sense of unreality when I really was thinking back to Obama being president. As if the entire 8 years was a dream.

But sleeping with staffers is a big labor abuse.

Yeah, that's the real problem.

The only people who "care" about the nude photos just hate women anyway.

This obsession you have with "socialism" as a liability for Sanders just doesn't compute for me. I suspect it's a generational thing.
I have a lot of young, left-leaning friends that are all anti-socialist. It's not just a generational thing. Young people are more open to it but not allof them.
Katie Hill.

Quick googling she was having affairs nude photos with another women and she had multiple erm affairs.

She was openly bisexual without the photos she could probably ride it out.

I had to Google it. She also violated some rules as her last friend was a junior staffer.
She's denied having an affair with a staffer and should have been given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to have an investigation to clear or prove the allegations. It's not right that we keep railroading people out of office because GOP shills levy accusations, meanwhile the GOP stands by child molesters and 'legitimate rape' scumbags. That said, I can understand why she'd want out of the personal quagmire as quickly as possible.

Also, her husband and those involved in the sharing of revenge porn should be put in prison.

So, you have a lot of young, right-wing friends?
