Hillary's campaign thought Wisconsin, Michigan, etc., were in the bank, which is why they foolishly tried to tack "centrist" to entice voters from Texas, Georgia, NC, Missouri etc... That strategy was a failure, and it would be foolhardy to make that mistake again. Spend your time getting the reliable Democratic voters in Michigan and Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to turn out instead of quixotic quests to woo the elusive "centrists".But those are the votes you need. Bernie will drive out the vote in the areas that Mickey Mouse would win if he were running. Those wins are already in the bank. You need those marginal votes in places like Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio etc. where Bernie is not an asset.

Democrats will win by energizing the likely Democrats. They won't win by running "Democrats" who focus on trying to make Conservatives etc., comfortable by sounding like Republicans. Folks who want a Democrat who talks like a Republican are ultimately going to just vote Republican, stay home, or vote 3rd party, which has the same electoral effect in the POTUS race as staying home.
Just considering what you seem to be proposing on principle... I try to put myself in the shoes of a hypothetical moderate Republican who voted for Trump in 2016. Turns out Trump was a total disaster and I don't want to vote for him again... so what is it that I expect of the Democrats? That they move even further right than they did in 2016, thus abandoning their base and turning off their youth, blacks, hispanics and more... in order to focus on... me? Why do I feel that I'm entitled to such special treatment?... such bend-over-backwards wooing?I don't know. I actually think they're the same. I have a lot of ex-republican friends that all refused to vote for trump. The general consensus was the we would vote for whoever we wanted but wouldn't just vote for someone we were told to vote for just because it wasn't trump.
But you're probably right that there is a gray area somewhere in there.
Well that someone was Hillary... as I noted several times early-on during the 2016 race... but... you know...No more "I believe that common ground can be found, we're all Americans" tripe like we got from Obama. We need someone brutally ruthless. Someone who isn't afraid to apply the requisite chemo and radiation treatments and burn out the cancer.
What turns red states purple, and then blue is winning. That's what turned the Democrats into the DLC Clinton party... getting absolutely wiped-out by Reagan and Papa Bush. The Republicans were so strong and secure that they got greedy and ended up fracturing into one of the strongest third parties in recent history. Meanwhile, the Democrats, tired of losing to Republicans... decided to join'em rather then beat'em... giving us the more conservative version of the Democratic party, led by the Clintons. The Quixotic quest was to flip states, not for the purpose of winning the presidency, which they did think was in the bank, but to break the Republican hold in those states that were, and still are, teetering. It is still important to press to flip those states, with Trump's accidental assistance. Just taking back the Wisconsin/Michigan/Pennsylvania block doesn't destroy the GOP. The process of turning red states purple and purple states blue needs to continue. And whoever gets elected they need to focus all of their attention not on any 'green new deal' or 'universal health care' that will excite some fringy part of the base. They need to focus on election reform and the total destruction of the GOP.

What meantime?AOC seems promising... in terms of being the "take-no-prisoners" type... but we need someone to act as steward in the meantime.

I'll help, but don't host it in Gunland.Gori the Grey said:Trying to talk Sommer out of his "royal you" nonsense is the first way I ever engaged him. It's pointless. He's obstinate on this point. Don't bother telling him how foolish it makes him look. Don't point out to him that it's the exact opposite of what he means to convey. Don't point out to him that one can convey the same points with "one." He's committed to this buffoonery. One just has to like him for his other good points.
Maybe we'll stage a intervention some time.
