Of course, because the laws are all-wise and all-knowing. I suppose laws made slavery alright, as well, eh?

From the 22 y/o's point of view, yes that's the important part...

The father needs to ask himself the folowing question: If my daughter were male, and the 22y/o was female what would my opinion be?

My guess is he would be far less upset, and that is the approach we must take rather than using a screwed up double standard.

Neither right or wrong - You have the right to be angry about it, but not to act upon that anger.

Divide your age by 2. Then add 7. That is the youngest age you should consider dating.

Yea, if I did that I'd could be charged with rape. I'm 20, so she would be 17 by this rule.

On one hand, she's legal, on the other hand personally I think the age gap is too much for a 16 yr old.

yeah, that's precisely what I think. I disagree with such relationships not because of the legality of it (legal limits are meaningless anyway) but because of the general maturity difference between a 16yo and a 22yo. Banning the improbable exception, I'm really concerned about a 22yo guy going after a 16yo girl. They're not playing the same game.

Note that this is my view on the general idea of such a relationship, but I fully admit there could be cases in which such a relationship could be ok.

Well, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with a 22-year-old having sex with a 16-year-old. But this guy sounds like a real pig. I'd get angry.

Agreed. What bothers me isnt the 22-16 thing, its the fact that this guy is a total a-hole.

When/if I have a daughter, I'm telling her right off the bat, "Don't screw 20 year olds until you're 18, or you're grounded, BIG TIME", as soon as she starts looking tasty

Yeah, i'm sure that will keep her from having sex with a 20 year old when she's 17. It will make an interesting conversation tough: "Honey, i think your starting to look tasty now..."

Because it would be incest?

ahahaha, that was gold. Thank you :D

:agree:

And as a father, you can be certain that I'd be sending a clear message to the 22yo (and if he's an unpleasant character, so much the moreso) that he's engaging in risky behavior when pursuing a relationship with my daughter. Ditto if the genders are reversed, by the way.

It's just the way he's going about it which is creepy and weird

Sex simply for sex is just that, what difference does it make if both people are 16 or one is 16 and the other 22? And most 16 years old who have sex are doing it for the sex, certainly not thinking about marriage or commitment - just look at the current average age on (first) marriage in most countries. If they are... well, they'd have to learn, sooner or later.

parents, Let her have fun and learn from her experiances.
Sorry there, Nazi-boy, but you don't just "make a mistake" and that's it; if you get pregnant, that's there for the rest of your life.

And have no illusions, abortions don't put the problem to rest too. Women who had abortions are four times as likely to be substance abusers, and 28% have attempted suicide.

In my opinion, the risk for -at least- mental abuse and manipulation is too great, and I wouldn't want my kid to do things he/she wouldn't otherwise do just because he/she is doing it with someone they look up too.
