Altered Maps XII: Not to Scale

Why is Great Britain not in "Protestant Europe"? Why is there no "Orthodox Europe" section?

I remember that this map has been posted here before some time ago. Gods, there are just so many things wrong about it.

At least now we know that Poland lies next to India.

Isn't English speaking another language?

Another thought - why is Portugal not next to Brazil, rather than Argentina?

Apparently, 'English-speaking' means "not in Europe".

The position is prolly decided by the average result from a questionnaire, not really the "map" makers fault where they land.

Bosnia is above in secular values than Canada....lol-

Well, I think that's because the "communist" regimes were all "religion is poison" and tried to eradicate it, and they had partial success in this. So in Bosnia there is a higher percentage of atheists than in Canada.

But still, the Communists did ban things like those Arab ninja headcovers, evolution in school, segregated politics from religion (even though religion is seeping in once more)....But Canada has Gay marriage, more atheists and non-religious people and so on...I really didn't expect Bosnia to be so high, let alone Serbia which I always considered as religious and if not more religious than Bosnia.

Arab ninja headcovers

What is that?

evolution in school

Are you serious? What did they teach, then?

My only "connection" to the former eastern block is a czech friend, and he describes Czechia as a very atheist country, but I'm pretty sure (I know, really) the different countries had varying success in the "atheistification".

Sorry dude, wrong use of the oxford comma, they taught evolution not banned it.

Ninja head scarfs (It was rare even then, only really religious people wore them until teh ban):

Everyone here claims to be a certain religion but most are irreligious if not atheist...as most of the east bloc we are a very atheistic country.

I thought those were called burkas.

But were you saying that Canada has more atheists than Bosnia?

Yes...I am.

Well, I don't have information contradicting (or supporting) that, so I can't argue.

So here's a couple of Atheism maps.

The first one shows "Percentage of people in various European countries who said: "I don't believe there is any sort of spirit, God or life force." (2005)"

Vietnam's contrast with it's neighbours is rather remarkable. Has it got to do with the communist regime?

Probably. Vietnam apparently calls itself an atheist state. Though according to Wikipedia, most people still does the things their religions involve out of tradition.

I was sort of surprised that Laos was so different from Vietnam, as it's also a "communist" regime.

Also, I just took the maps from Wikipedia without doing too much research, have some sceptisism.

What qualifies as religious or cultural tradition is rather murky in (South) East Asia anyway.

The word "hour" in various languages

7PfBZEj.png

Interesting how a some languages seem to use another language's word for the word "time" to mean hour, such as in the case of Russian, for example.. and the other obvious example which sticks out.

Interesting. Most surprising is the shared root in German and the Baltic/Finnish language area. Can someone explain this?

Also I guess pink is "other" and the words aren't actually related?
