Alternate History Thread IV: The Sequel

Well, I fixed the U.S. cities. Also, it seems you're using a non-current version of the Jason map, so I fixed the Bahamas, but I'm not sure what else might have slipped through the cracks.

Spoiler There you go :

I bet your update would look just as fun....

Rant enclosed below, not directed at Darkening so much as people who don't listen:

Spoiler :
Did you already forget what I think about people who bug mods in completely different threads? You know..."it's the most annoying thing ever" "it will not speed me up, only clog up ONTOPIC discussion threads with stupid OFFTOPIC posts" "it rises my blood pressure, which is not healthy"

This treatment has been done to NK, jason, iggy, and me throughout the years, and its not effective or clever. It's annoying. I might have even been guilty of it at one time, but I usually stopped when the mod insisted that I cut it out.

I could give you the answer I've given to you a dozen times, but you won't listen to it. Maybe I should put it in bold letters?

THE UPDATE IS COMING. IT WILL BE ON MY OWN TIME NOW, SINCE IF I JUST UPDATED WILLY NILLY WE WOULD BE IN THIS SAME CYCLE WITH THE NEXT UPDATE. IF I INTENDED ON NOT UPDATING, I WOULD HAVE SAID ALREADY.

Why should I address you spammers and whiners in my thread? I TOLD you I don't read my thread once the deadline has passed and all it is is pre-update spam. Didn't I already address them just to appease you guys? Haven't I told ALL of you through AIM what the situation was? Jesus, I like running this NES, but other things prioritize themselves. I should not even be stressing myself out AT ALL over something on the internet, but you guys are pushing me.

Maybe it looks frustrating when I'm talking about joining other NES'. You might think "WTH, thats gonna take time from updating!" but really, I don't give a flying carebear what you think. I could play in 10 NES' and not be at the level that running 1 NES takes. Most of you guys bugging me have all been NES mod failures or never tried.

Oh, and I'm making up a new rant everytime someone chooses to ignore my old rants on the subject.

@dachs, are you planning on having special cities like in DisNES3?

There's still some completely awful US city placement on that map, Thy. Namely, I can't tell what that second Michigan city is supposed to be. Some other things: Isle Royal in the middle of Lake Superior is supposed to be America. Ottawa should be on the river.

1) OTL they concentrated on building a beiyang fleet, not an updated army, why'd they suddenly switch focus? Especially since in the opium war they lost due to an inferior fleet. Furthermore they actually had no drive to modernize an army at that time. The army they used to defeat the taiping rebellion was mostly of miltia background from core china.

The Beiyang Fleet and Army were modernized and such.

There's still some city in the middle of Maryland. Call me crazy but I don't think Denton is that big. There's no Las Vegas, Arizona and California are all kinds of screwed up, Georgia's wrong, El Paso is just plain bad, Memphis is on the wrong side of the Mississippi, and the Galapagos haven't been updated. That's mostly comprehensive for the South-Southwest.

Oh, and everything I said about the Commanders and Aleutians previously was completely ignored.

I agree Georgia is screwed up. Atlanta is way off and Savannah is to far north. Also add Macon in there. :p

It appears you deleted San Diego, at the least. I know I submitted a map that had fixed up Arizona... feh.

At any rate, Christianity wasn't of much importance as a casus belli this early on, though (as detailed in the Strategos' wonderful latest althist) it did eventually play into the various civil wars as well as Persian invasions (Persians naturally courted the heretics, just like Muslims did later on). But so what? It still wasn't a cause in and of itself, it was a factor.

Since this was brought up in another thread...

For anyone who cares, after a delay caused by various reasons, I am actually starting the last chapter of the "Wars of Heaven" alt-hist which will go until apx 1100 CE. Since I've gotten into the habit of posting little "teasers," here is something that does a dual function of providing said teaser as well as acting as a desparate cry for help, as I am certain it needs much improvement as I have really never done something like this before. Edit: It is obviously unfinished...

Spoiler :

Well, I'll be glad to help, but I'm going to need a tad bit more information than that. ;)

das, did you ever come up with stats for the Ming/Spanish Succession/Dutch War/American Revolution althist? I'm interested in a NES of that one if it ever does happen, and could help a little with stats as my mind's on those right now.

Stats for the Gettysburg-Great European War althist are nearing completion.

If anyone shows interest in it, I too would be willing to help. Until then, it's rather pointless.

Cool. I just realized something: the VOC has colonies in Oregon on that map. (Or so it appears.) That's scary.

I know. I believe I mentioned that. VOC fur trade may seem a bit bizzare, but then again I seem to recall Dutch commercial influences in the OTL Russian America for the purpose of the fur trade (what else?). Here they have to go there themselves.

Well, I was just rereading the TL, figured I should print out the map, noticed odd blobs of greenish stuff on the coast, and WOW, it's the VOC.

Why are your northeast African borders basically the same as NES2 VI?

EDIT: Oops, sorry, Sennar is a city bigger. :p

Both the PoDs and the maps were in about the same respective time periods, while 17th-18th century East Africa is darn hard to change with outer PoDs (16th and 19th centuries are considerably easier, ofcourse, at least with specifically European PoDs).

Any spare timelines laying around that I could mod?
See the previous conversation between me and das. ;) If you were to come up with your amazing ruleset, I'm sure that the Ming althist would be open to modding.

Any spare timelines laying around that I could mod?

You would probally get more help if you were more specific, such as saying:

"Any spare timelines made by das laying around that I could mod?" or "Any spare timelines covering 1700-1800 laying around that I could mod?" or "Any spare timelines that have all the work done for me so I don't have to do anything except open the thread laying around that I could mod?"

Otherwise, no one will help you because we (or at least me) have the sneaking suspicion that whatever we suggest will just be dismissed with a "that's not what I'm looking for."
