Announce your new/updated Civ3 files for front-page coverage!

I'm glad to see there is no ill. I understand your points and I agree with them. I wasn't aware of the issue, which is my fault, even if I did read (again) the first recently and I started using links to the DB rather than to the threads, for instance. However, I did forget the part about truncated URL, as I wasn't using the URL brackets anyway here. How could it affect me ?

I'm only commenting and adding this as I've just discovered why this particular use of the URL brackets did appear in my previous posts:

When you're adding an URL in the 'Quick Reply' windows, the board adds the URL brackets in a way it shortens your 'seen' URL. I'm not sure it does when you're using the 'Go Advanced' windows. At least, it didn't when I add the 'full' links a few hours ago in 'Advanced' and it did when I added them a few moments ago in the announcement thread in 'Quick Reply'.

If that result is confirmed I'll add the explanation to the OP. Thanks for investigating it.

The solution I found is to add a space after the words inside the [url][/url] tags.

Thus

[url="http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=16630"]http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=16630[/url]
yieldswhile

yields

I'll test this when the occasion arise, without, I hope, resorting to senseless spamming.
If you want to test link between posts in this thread I've got your back.

That is one of the solutions outlined in the OP. It's probably the simplest if one remembers where to put the space.

Well, I can't replicate a difference between Quick or Advanced Reply.

However, the simplest way to avoid the url crush seems to uncheck the 'Automatically parse links' in the advanced reply windows. I suppose I did uncheck it when I posted here yesterday.

As a result, there is no usable link to click on, but this thread isn't supposed to do that anyway.

Problem is sometimes the image is at the linked page rather than posted here. I guess we could change the posting to include a line with the (inactive) URL and another for active links (optional). It seems to me that will just cause more problems than it solves - yet more guidelines for people to miss, misconstrue or forget to follow. I'm open to any solution that allows CnP of text directly from the post and without making posting more difficult than it has to be for everyone else.

Use the [plain][/plain] tags if you want, it works as well.

If you're suggesting that each poster add those tags then we're back to the situation of whether we require the preview pictures to be posted here or else provide a link in addition to the non-parsed url.

Would it be a problem to ask to post the preview in this thread ? It seems everyone is doing it anyway.
The majority do. Not everyone does. Making it a requirement would not solve the problem with the links.

Wouldn't the noparse brackets or uncheck the automated parsing + preview in this thread solve the issue ?

You (or anyone making the announcement) would have both the full link and the preview in this thread.

Of course, it depends again of the will of the creators to keep themselves updated to the latest rules and posting according to them, but every solution come back to that.
