I'm just slightly lost. So is being "furry" inherently sexual, as in you get off on fantasizing about these kinds of characters, or does it just mean that you just generally like that kind of animation?

Not at all! :)

Being furry just implies you have some degree of liking for anthro animals; in my case, I'm automatically biased in favor of any furry thing I see on screen. Whether that "degree" is just a simple interest/obsession or sexual in nature, varies. There's a reason why there's PLENTY of tame furry art, and on the other side of the coin, plenty of mature-rated art.

Obviously I can't get into detail about that last part, given the forum rules.

So you're essentially saying Furryism is inherently a fetish?

Where? I said that some furs would likely consider sexual relations with a fully sentient, fully intelligent, fully humanoid, etc. animal. There are plenty of furs who are just in the fandom for the fun of drawing, communicating, etc. No sexual content whatsoever.

Would you consider people who...fantasize about say, snakes or reptiles, or birds, or fish, or slugs as furries?

If said animals are walking on two legs and such, the people fantasising about them could possibly be furries. Possibly.

I snipped the microorganism part because I'm quite sure they never were part of the fandom... slugs, mayyyyybe. I'd have to check. Everyone else, yes, there are gryphons, snakes, dragons, orcas, sharks, phoenixes, hawks, etc.

To be fair though, there is at least one cockroach in the fandom: Uncle Kage. He's one of the main leaders of the fandom as well, being a main organiser of many furry events.

As a furry, would you be attracted to a reverse mermaid?

No... not in the least.

What does the fandom think of werewolves(not the twilight kind) and kaiju? Is fascination with these things (not together or in a sexual way) considered the samething?

When the British Empire was at its zenith we dealt with people like you with a lot of rum, sodomy, and the lash. In other words we made you join the Royal Navy. Do you believe this would cure you of your perversion?

i'm into furries and dont see what difference a gay englishmen fetish would make.

awwwwwwwww. I missed the fun :/

  1. Do you like real animals?
  2. Why do you think you became "furry" (were drawn to "furrydom")?
  3. At what age do you think you became obsessed (mean this in a neutral non-judgmental way) with anthro creatures?
  4. Do you think "furryness" could be considered a type of spirituality and/or replacement for spirituality?
  5. Are there any common moral/spiritual beliefs that furries seem to hold in common (more so than the general population)?

Cheers,
Narz

Do humanoid aliens from Star Trek count to furries? You know, the ones that look human except for a nose ridge or pointed ears. Technically those are anthropomorphic animals.

Harvin, who're you referring to? Taniciusfox himself or furries as a whole?

These are interesting. A lot of furries do seem to hold some vaguely animistic or totemic beliefs, particularly those who indulge in the creation of a "fursona" but I'm unsure as to how widespread they are, or to what degree there are any common belief systems.

Well, technically so are humans. I think, in this context, "anthropomorphic animal" implies an anthropomorphised version of a particular terrestrial animal, rather than merely referring to any inhuman humanoid.

Although, on the flip side, is it common to class creatures such as those from the Redwall series, who's physical anthropomorphism is secondary to their human-like behaviour, as "furries"? Or is it taken to refer specifically to the narrower "hairy guy with an animal's head" archetype?

do you think your (pl) obsession with antropomorphic animals stems from the cartoons you watched in your childhood and if yes, would you thus classify "furries" as per definitionem suffering from peter pan syndrome?

will there be answers to our questions?

The notes Taniciusfox left Annex says yes, there will be, once these "April fool's shenanigans" - whatever those are - are over. :mischief:

What does the fandom think of werewolves(not the twilight kind)

I'm not quite sure, but I have read and seen many pieces of art and writing related to transformation, either permanent, temporary, or changing at will. One of the categories on FurAffinity(a very large furry site, with both clean and mature content; you have to register to see mature content, so it should be safe) is Transformation, however, so it's clearly popular enough within the fandom. As Werewolves fall under the transformation definition, I'd say there's probably a fair amount of furries who like werewolves.

and kaiju?

There is a subset of the fandom called the macro/micro fandom, which is about situations related to giant furries. These need not be sexual, just a giant wolf rampaging through London can fall under the macro art area.

Is fascination with these things (not together or in a sexual way) considered the samething?

Nope, not at all. Some people might just like mythical creatures(the first), and some might just enjoy monster movies(second).

Do you play world of warcraft, and if yes, do you play a druid?

No, and no.

Do you like real animals?

In a non-sexual manner, yes. I like dogs, wolves, foxes, otters, hedgehogs, tigers, etc. The list goes on.

Why do you think you became "furry" (were drawn to "furrydom")?

With the exception of a few years, I've always liked - okay, been obsessed with - Sonic. I began to dabble in the furry fandom around age 12 or so, and gradually, I looked at what the fandom was all about and decided I liked it all(the key difference between being obsessed with say, Sonic and being a furry, I feel). It became self-reinforcing as the furry fandom introduced me to various furry series.

At what age do you think you became obsessed (mean this in a neutral non-judgmental way) with anthro creatures?

Probably around 12-13(when I moved to Nevada), when I received regular access to the internet and thus could actually get involved with the fandom. I had dabbled in anthro creatures beforehand, however, in New York. So at a fairly young age to say the least.

Do you think "furryness" could be considered a type of spirituality and/or replacement for spirituality?

In some cases, yes. One subset of the fandom has a belief in animal avatars/spirits that represent them. Or, they believe they're actually a wolf or some other species at heart/in soul. So for some people, yes, being furry is some type of spirituality.

Are there any common moral/spiritual beliefs that furries seem to hold in common (more so than the general population)?

Most furries are fairly openminded, likely the result of being on the short end of the stick in terms of acceptance, and the fact the furry fandom itself is quite diverse. We do have our share of wannabe-Hitlers however, don't get me wrong. Thankfully, most of these people have been forced out of the fandom or have faded into obscurity.

Another trend I notice is a deep lack of religious dogma amongst furries. This could be attributed to the growing lack of religious beliefs and practices in the general population, but I think part of it has to do with the negative relations modern religious groupings have towards furries.

I don't really think so... I love you guys who take advantage of loopholes or gray areas my explanations leave. :p

don't you feel weird for not saying disgusted for yourself?

No, not really? I am who I am. :hmm: If nobody likes that, tough cookies. I consider myself as much a furry as a homosexual.

do you think your (pl) obsession with antropomorphic animals stems from the cartoons you watched in your childhood

I would say a lot of being furry is dependent on upbringing, yes. One needs to be exposed to x before they can say, "I'm interested in/I'm repulsed by x." Perhaps there is some dormant genetic trait that will kindle the interest, though obviously we must first experience anthro animals before deciding whether we are interested in them, or if we are not.

So I'd say yes, being furry likely stems from games/cartoons/other media experienced during one's youth, where the mind is most easily shaped.

and if yes, would you thus classify "furries" as per definitionem suffering from peter pan syndrome?

Furries mostly acknowledge their likings as fantasy. We're all actual people behind our fursonas and IM windows, we all have lives we have to live, etc. Online I'm Tanicius the Fox, though in reality I'm an adolescent who has to plan for his future, do schoolwork, etc.

We - as in most of us - just either have an interest in anthro animals, or outright wish they existed. I fall in both categories, to give an example.
