Borders of Europe, 2057

Which kingdom and when?

I wouldn't object to recreation of the Austrian Empire, if we had a decent representation this time :)

Bohemia post-1197; the later Přemyslid and Luxembourg dynasties come to mind before Hapsburg domination.

Europes borders rarely remain stable for more than a few decades. No doubt the coming ones wont be much different. Here are the changes I can see occuring in the next 50 years (please note I'm just saying they may occur, not that they definitely will. Please discuss, this should get some good mileage!

1. Kosovo secedes from Serbia. thats one that WILL happen. Who will recognise it is another matter...

Correct. It's not going be a disaster, but it will not be pleasant, either.

2. Transdniester secedes from Moldova

Transdniester has already declare itself independent, so no changes here.

3. Russia and Belarus merge. Pretty likely in the long term. Lukashenko is a bit of an obstacle, but Lukashenko wont be in power forever.

Maybe, so long as the last dictator can hold onto power.

4. Scotland secedes from the UK. May well happen, more likely is even greater autonomy than at present.

Maybe more autonomy, I doubt independence. The SNP will just never get enough votes for it.

5. Northern Ireland merges with Republic of Ireland. Just a matter of time. I'd say in the next 25 years that will come to pass.

Possible. The Protestant community is thinning out, so maybe in a generation a reunification will be possible. The British will be happy to rid themselves of the troubled province, but will the Republic take them in? Romaticism aside, Ulster will be a drain on who ever rules the place.

6. Belgium splits. Possible, but unlikely because the status of Brussels would be a diffcult one, and it being EU and NATO HQ, not many people want to see Brussles destablised.

Could be; there are few pan-Belgian institutions left.

7. Czechoslovakia reforms. Again, unlikely but not unthinkable. the split was amicable, there could emerge a situation where its advantageous to both parties to reunite. theyd probably have to call it Slovakiczechia this time though

I doubt it. Neither the czechs nor the Slovaks would want it.

Who cares about that. What's important is it has always been semi-autonomous region. Renaming Czechia to Bohemia if it still included Moravia would make as much sense as calling Belgium Flanders.

Neither would my grandmother. She could finally move back to Hermsdorf, or Hermiçe as it is named since the Germans got kicked out. :p

Sure, I'd kick those idiots who moved to the de-germanized areas myself, they belonged to the worst classes of the society anyway.

Of course, Germany would then have to pay us the reparations for WW2 - only 285 billion €uro. That's nothing...

That makes 3,50 euros per German citizen... we'll call it the Czech Tax. Let's take this to the European Union. Poland did something similar and they actually got attention, so why couldn't Holland and the Czech Republic? Besides, Czechslovakia's opinion was ignored in München, so the Czech Republic should have a one time ignore-German-opinion card!

Well, I know you want us to, so I'll just step into the trap...

Why Malta and Romania?

If it's about immigrants, you should take Bosnia, Iraq, Poland and Syria too.

You forgot a couple zeros ;)

fine.

Here's a map that has all of the counties of Europe in it. I think I properly colored in the countries in their current state. Have fun!

What Game is that?

That is a great map, and very usable :goodjob:

Ok, here are the treaty of Sevres (1920) new greek lands. They were taken away with the treaty of Lausannes (1923).

Map I made based un my last Hearts of Iron 2 game. Posted because I particularly like the way the borders came out. Some games make it awfully messy.

Actually, I believe they were denied by the turkish army.

About the earlier map, I don't recognize any of those territorial divisions drawn in Portugal. Therefore I doubt its useful for anything but games.
But the idea is goos: look at the EU as a federation of regions, not states. Of course, that would mean breaking up larger countries into smaller chunks: Germany along its federal divisions, the UK and Spain along regional lines... But what could we do with France and other very centralized large states?!
