In R8XFT’s Anno Domini mod there looks to be an actual elephant unit upgrade line. I’ve also got a hankering for elephant units because of my own interest in India and related civs.

Trolling CFC these are all the elephant units, beyond the stock Firaxis one, that I can find. I’m aware that RFRE has a Hannibal’s Army Munit that includes an elephant, but I have not seen it posted here as a unit, and I believe its elephant is based on one of the units below.
If anyone knows of another elephant unit please post a link to it.:please:

Thanks for putting this list together; I think I've already got them all on my hard drive already, but it shows that there's enough elephant units going round to make a UU out of one of them as well for either the Kushan or Mauryan civilization? Any thoughts as to which one?

I'd say Mauryan, and I think the Kushans should have a horse-mounted UU :)
Second that. We discussed a Kushan UU in the rise of Asia thread - a lancer type unit. I'd have to look up the name in the thread. Appropriate Mauryan would be either an elephant UU or a heavy chariot.

Edit: A notable gap as to elephant units would be like the one tech icon image I posted. Elephants were trained to fight with a sword mounted on their trunk. So they used their metal reinforced tusks to thrust and toss, the sword to slash, and stomped with their feet, in addition to whatever the troops on their back were doing.
