Former Rep. Allen West (R-Florida) apparently made an embarrassing error after he couldn't buy alcohol from a particular Walmart cashier in Dallas, Texas.

In a since-updated blog post on his site, the conservative firebrand suggested on Monday that he wasn't allow to purchase booze from the employee because the cashier was Muslim and the store had adopted "Sharia law." (The Islamic religion prohibits alcohol consumption.)

"There was a young man doing the checkout and another Walmart employee came over and put up a sign, 'No alcohol products in this lane' So being the inquisitive fella I am, I used my additional set of eyes — glasses — to see the young checkout man’s name. Let me just say it was NOT 'Steve,'" West wrote.

He then used the incident to lament that Christians are being forced to violate their faith by serving same-sex weddings.

"Imagine that, this employee at Walmart refused to just scan a bottle or container of an alcoholic beverage — and that is acceptable," he continued. "A Christian business owner declines to participate or provide service to a specific event — a gay wedding — which contradicts their faith, and the State crushes them."

However, it turns out that the cashier was just too young to sell alcohol under store policy. West's post was subsequently updated with an "EDITOR's NOTE" to explain the snafu.

12 States where Sharia is partially in place:

12 States continue to cling to Prohibition-era Blue Laws banning Sunday liquor sales. They include: Alabama, Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia

I think in Texas, the Muslims are here in disguise and call themselves Southern Baptists.

We have 254 counties.

49 are Sharia free and there are no outright bans on the sale of alcohol.

195 have been partially infiltrated by Sharia as there are no-go zones where the sale of alcohol is prohibited.

10 are completely no-go as you cannot legally buy or sell alcohol.

It's amazing how when you're racist, you notice it's "not Steve" getting in between you and your booze.

"Fearmongering fearmongering Sharia law fearmongering fearmongering OUTRAGE fearmongering fearmongering fearmongering Muslims fearmongering..."

Oh. I was wrong.

BE VERY AFRAID!!!!

Sunday is like the only day I can prepare for the upcoming week, how the hell am I supposed to tolerate Monday?

Blue laws are invaluable because they force drunks to maintain a small degree of forethought and planning.

@Perf: You could ensure that you always have a large enough supply of fine beverages on hand that you never need go without.
That's why I have probably about 20 boxes of pasta in the kitchen.

Oddly, the tech support people from AT&T who spoke broken English with South Asian accents were in fact named Steve.

Alcohol is a plague on too many houses. Once again goes to show the Republicans lack of awareness/care for history, considering it was a Christian backed position to be for prohibition for many years. People forget/ignore what becomes inconvenient for them and as much as Republicans love to yell about moral decay in society, they have been responsible for far worse moral decay for decades.

Here in North Carolina, you can't buy any alcohol before noon on a Sunday. I, for one, will be happy when we overthrow this tyrannical Sharia Law. Or, you know, whatever religion's silliness is behind this oppression of the free market.

Sunday is the only day you're obligated to consume alcohol.

These laws are clearly anti-christian inspired.

Well, to be fair, only if you're a cannibal/vampire who needs to symbolically drink your god's blood as part of your religious ritual. Then it's totes cool.

EDIT: Presumably they bought the symbolic blood/wine sometime on Saturday. I do wonder what would happen if the Communion/Vampire wine ran out around 11:15 & they had to go buy more. It'd be an interesting crisis of faith, I imagine.

I guess glasses were insufficient to note the obvious. The "no alcohol in this lane" should have been a tip-off. But voicing opinions is always easier than using those old brain cells.

Maybe, just maybe, the ban on alcohol consumption is why Muslims have so many anger-management issues. "Lighten up a bit and have a drink, why don't you?"

On the other hand, I've encountered plenty of angry drunks, so maybe it isn't that at all.

Perhaps it's something to do with bacon.
