I also find it ironic that they allegedly have these laws because of the bad "consequences" these actions can have on the children's lives when in reality the only horrific consequence to be found is the law that supposedly exists because of the terrible consequences.

This is completely stupid and I think in the future people will have a hard time understanding the kind of hysteria that would lead to the police arresting teenagers over possessing nude photos of themselves.

I agree. In some cases if the parents of one teenager hates the other (usually a guy, from what I've heard), it's pretty easy to screw over that poor guy's life - no matter how decent he is - by turning him into, legally speaking, a registered sex offender (or something like that). For, say, a fifteen year old boy, that can be a terrible ordeal to live through.

Actually I don't believe the girl should be charged because I believe neither of them should but its sexist that only he is being charged.

Makes sense. I get the feeling a lot of these underage sex offenders (who oftentimes aren't doing anything remotely horrific) are being turned in by over-zealous parents who don't realize, or don't want to believe, that their daughter is just as immature and clueless as that evil evil boy who hurt their precious girl. Sort of like that other story from a while back where a man shot his daughter's boyfriend when he snuck into their house or something. In many of these cases, the boy is always assumed to be in the wrong unfortunately.

Guess overprotective parents can be the same all over. My grandfather told me of how he ran for his life one time when he was a wee lad and tried sneaking into a girl's house, only to be discovered by her dad.

Pretty much I'd say, and it's a manifestation of some long-standing stereotypes about both boys and girls - that guys are heartless horndogs who want to hump any and every girl in sight, and that girls are virtuous pure virgins who are purer than... purity or something. So obviously parents (and older siblings, if they're unreasonable) have to protect their precious little princesses from those evil filthy barbarian hordes of rampaging bags of testosterone.

Although occasionally I'll see parents - usually mothers - being overprotective of boys as well, telling them things like how women are evil seductresses who will steal your soul/lure you into slavery a bad relationship/are whores who want to ruin you/etc. My mother used to tell me things like that, though now I realize she was just trolling me.

Of course, usually parents of boys don't bring up charges against girls though. And if they did I don't think many people would take them seriously, even if the charges are legitimate.
