They are vaccinating kids over 12 here in the UK.

Here too - half of our 12 to 15s in the last fortnight got a jab in this city. But not all vaccines are approved that young, and not in every country, so I'm not sure the situation up in Spain.

The (BioNtech) vaccine got approved for kids 12+ in Germany about 6 weeks back, and both our boys have just (yesterday) completed the 2-week post-2nd-jab waiting period.

This means that they will no longer be obliged to do the twice-weekly breakfast-time LFTs (nasal-swab sample type) mandated by their school/ our local education authority (and still required for unvaccinated kids), which they're both very happy about! They will still have to wear masks while inside the school buildings for the foreseeable future, though.

No idea how many of their classmates have also been jabbed to date, nor whether the school is going to continue to supply test-kits for free to those who still need them, but that's not really a concern for me.

(I'm 90% sure I heard rumblings that the German Government was/is planning to stop funding all the free-at-point-of-delivery CoViD-testing stations, sometime within the next month; not sure if/ how the recent election results are going to affect that)

From that, i extract:

All children aged 12 to 15 will be offered a 1st dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Parents and guardians will get a letter with information about when the vaccine will be offered.

Well now I interpret the "will be offered" as a future intention rather than a present reality.

Except the big protest last week, of course.

In my opinion, it is merely a weak imitation of what the yankee doodles are doing.

Covid passports in Scotland: The rules start in 17 hours, and they will not tell anyone what they are:

Scotland's vaccine passport scheme will start on Friday as planned after a judge refused a legal challenge from nightclubs seeking to delay it.

The regulations underpinning the scheme have not yet been published by the government, but will come into force at 05:00 on Friday morning.

QC Lord Keen, a former Advocate General for Scotland, said ministers were bringing forward regulations "beyond the 11th hour, in the strangest fashion", adding: "The very fact I have had to say within 24 hours of these regulations coming into force that we haven't seen them, is itself redolent of the problem that exists here."

So the Scotties wake up Friday morning and check a website before they go clubbing on Friday night.

Hold on I just reread the text in the referenced link.

However the government has said the rules will not actually be enforced until 18 October, to give venues time to test their systems.

And the clubs spend a whole day actually making it work.

In fairness "the government has said the rules will not actually be enforced until 18 October, to give venues time to test their systems." It still begs the question of how a government can run like this, either they know what the rules are and are not telling people for reasons, or they have not yet decided on them with less than 24 hours to go.

A question I have is if they do not need to check people under 18, and people under 18 generally do not have to prove that (unlike people over 18 who want to drink) how is that enforced?

In England we get a card with the dates of the two jabs.

If showing the NHS Scotland equivalent suffices, it should be straightforward except for those who have lost their card.

Of course if it is a half baked app on a smartphone, door entry may be chaotic.

I am happy to let dearest Scotland serve as the Testing Ground.

15% of your population is under 15, is there even a vaccine approved for them there?
About 70% of the population between 12 and 19 has already been fully vaccinated with Pfizer and Moderna. Janssen, the other one used in Spain, is only for healthy adults. Next month some regions like Andalucia are going to begin vaccinating from 5 to 12 as soon as European Medicine Agency approves it.

In Norfolk, people under eighteen are not allowed to enter nightclubs serving alcohol, so there
is no need to check their vaccination status. The nightclubs should simply not admit them.

I was watching an old Graham Norton show last night from December of 2019. One of his guests was a restaurateur who had just had to close his last restaurant because he said the business was so horrible at that time but couldn't possibly get worse... I had to LOL, if only he knew what was coming in a couple months :p

As promised

Makes me wonder about the daily news in Portugal where even 84.9 % is fully vaccinated according to the "OurWorldInData" graph.
Perhaps Inno knows more

It's sliding into the background here also.
But schools reopened just a couple weeks ago, universities this week. Sports games will have half attendance, masks are still mandatory in public transportation and enclosed spaces.
Given the decision to "live with the virus" things are at least being done reasonably carefully - within this madness. I will not have an opinion on whether vaccination (and accumulated infections) is providing useful immunity for a return to "near normal" before one more month passes. I'm skeptical though.

Schools and, more dangerously, commercial night amusements reopening now will be a test. Of course people have already been gathering - the spanish are in a hurry to reopen that because of huge botellóns getting out of control from the authorities point of view - but there's a different between open-air and enclosed spaces!

Today Russia recalled over a million second-dose vaccines it'd shipped here because of an alleged mistake in labelling.

THATCHER DETECTED

My apologies for being unable to find a link to a video of the superb spitting image sketch.

By the way Tony Blair obviously agreed with Margaret Thatcher hence devolution.

Things have moved on since I commented re Samson and vaccinating children.

The vaccination of 12 to 15 year olds against Covid is now commencing in Norfolk.

Last night I booked first jabs for my two children for 20 October 2021 to be given at their school.

UK Covid deaths now 2,000 per million; i.e. 1 in 500

And what was that I said about half baked apps:

Just in

Scottish Covid vaccine passport app hit by problems after launch
NHS app needed to enter nightclubs, large events and for overseas travel, but users complain it does not work

Done anything to piss Russia off or plain old incompetence?

I can't find any news in Russian or in English about alleged vaccine recall. Looks like a hoax.
