Could Civ4 be the foundation for Alpha Centaur 2

Well, thats odd Javal Tiger, because my copy of SMAC works perfectly on my 2.4Ghz 256MB RAM computer without any difficulty whatsoever. I only wish I could say the same for 'People's General' and 'Birth of the Federation' :(.

yep same with me, smac works perfectly, but when I found the demo for alien crossfire it would not work. :(

For anyone who has patched up SMAC/X all the way including the XP compatibility patch and still has problems, try this:

Find and open the 'AlphaCentauri.ini' file in your game folder(open it with notepad if it asks you what program to open it with). Now add a line to the block of text (right after 'PREFERENCES' at the end):
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1

Make sure to save before exiting. Hopefully your problems are solved.

Someone could always make a mod. pack for the graphics and leave the mechanics alone.

I'm not a programmer and not a mod-expert, but I think it's very hard a modpack/conversion of civ4 in something like smac2. Firaxis says that players will be able to mod almost everything.. but.. I think about the terrain concept in SMAC/X (no different terrain types but different altitude, weather and presence of minerals), or about the deep unit personalization: Civ4 has the "promotion" feature, but we are far enough from the SMAC/X unit personalization.

I'm dreaming about a real new SMAC2. I can't stop loving Deirdre Skye :love:

I wouldn't get your hopes up to ever see SMAC2 or Colonization 2. Both games were the baby of Brian Reynolds, not Sid. Just because some silly poll on the website is up it doesn't mean anything. Someone like Sid probably doesn't even know that poll exists at all. ;)

you have a point about sid not knowing about the poll.. but maybe they should have renamed the game to Brian Reynolds' Colonization instead of Sid Meier's ;)

Wait, calling SMACII by the title BRAC(Brian Reynold's Alpha Centauri) would not violate copyright. It would also be a cool naming tradition that each new iteration is named after the new lead programmer.
Yeah, just like Activision calling their game Civilization: Call to Power isn't a violation of copyright... oh wait, they got sued didn't they? ;)

really? who won the lawsuit?

Unknown, but the sequal was named Call to Power 2... minus the Civilization name...

...although in the box cover of CTPII you could read: "from tha developers of Civilization: Call to Power". They still managed to include the "civilization" bit in CTPII's box.
