Dawn of Civilization - an RFC modmod by Leoreth

Moreover the caste system realistically should stifle a specialist economy because it prevents people from pursuing the professions they choose, therefore nipping in the bud countless talented people.

I thought I should comment on this - I've been working on an RFC modmod of mine for a long time now, and I'm planning on implementing the Caste System for India also - except mine would give them -33% cost modifier when hurrying production. If you've played with a highly slavery abusive civilization, you'll know that's not necessarily a "power" but a benefit you'll have to balance. Meanwhile, the Pyramids act as Sacrificial Altars, lowering population hurrying unhappiness by 50% in all cities. India's 2nd UB would do this also, first would increase city happiness. Would this be as offensive?

I haven't been following this thread for ages though so sorry if I'm interrupting something by bringing up something unrelated.

It seems like the American Conquest events aren't occuring, in my last two games both the Aztecs and Inca were totally unaffected.

Secondly, although I appreciate that Indonesia's goals are meant to represent the three historical nations that inhabbited the area, I think 1940 is too late as a deadline. It gives you a long period of time in which you're not really doing anything, and to be honest turn times get to the point where its just tedious to keep on playing by the nineteenth century let alone the twentieth. Also, if you don't make it then you feel like you've wasted a lot time waiting for the deadline. The way I see it, Indonesia's game should be over by the 17th century by which time idealy they should have collapsed and/or been conquered by the Dutch. The Republic of Indonesia would be a late game respawn that occurs after the UHV has been won or lost.

Another thing is that I don't think pirates really act like pirates. They could do a lot of damage if they would just use their blockade ability instead of just stolling by, pillaging your fishing boats, and then wandering off again. I think they, and other ships, should be made to blockade more, to make them an actual threat to your economy, and all ships should lose the ability to pillage fishing boats which is just annoying really.

Re Leoreth : Khmer & Indonesia spawn date

But Angkor was built in 802AD...
And Suryavarman II is a Khmer Empire leaderhead..
Not Funan or Chen-la leader..

The ideal and historical thing, IMO is :
1) Sri Vijaya spawn in Palembang (c670AD)
2) Found city in tip of Malay Peninsula & in Java (c700AD)
3) Sri Vijaya control Indochina peninsula (c750AD)
4) Khmer spawn and some city flip to Khmer (c800AD)
5) Chola (Scripted Barbarian) attack and capture Sri Vijayan cities in Malay peninsula (c1000AD), Khmer unite Indochina under its rule.
6) Capital moved to Trowulan (c1300AD, leader : Hayam Wuruk)
7) Thai spawn, Khmer collapse (c1400AD)
8) Indonesia unstable, Islam arrived (c1500AD)
9) Dutch come to colonize (c1600AD)
10) Indonesia respawn at 1945AD?

I just found that there is 'Hwang Woo-Suk' in the list of Korean Dynamic Great Person Names. In Korea, Woo-Suk Hwang is considered as a con man. He manipulated his scientific results and all his deceits were revealed. So, could you please exchange him by Lee Whi-soh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_W._Lee ) ? He is one of the great Korean physicist.
Thanks for noting. I was aware of Woo-Suk Hwang's fake results, but I thought he still made some genuine discoveries in stem cell research afterwards? I'll research more on that.

Civ king thinks Americans were better off in 1960 then they are today

Under British rule (I was only counting up to 1870, going up to 1952) India's gdp tripled. But America's went up 2400 fold. The reason for India's decline was not Britians oppression, but America, Russia, and the rest of the world catching up.

Well, one could still make a point about India not keeping its lead compared to the rest of the world.

I suggest you take it to the World History forum if you really want to continue the debate.

Edit: I've rolled some Maya starts and China always managed to found Confucianism so I think Rome can keep Mathematics as starting tech.

Congratulations on your monocasual explanation!

India went from producing finished good to being a place used for raw materials, that causes a decrease in standards at least comparatively if not in absolute terms. I didn't say that India's decline wasn't decreased in part by other people catching up. Part of the reason India had such a large portion of global GDP was because of its enormous population share.

Well excepting establishing a common tongue for the whole subcontinent, Western medicine, railroad infrastructure and breaking up the caste system, what have the British ever done for us?

Now please quit the discussion here and take it either to a fitting forum or continue via PM.

Leoreth, your TXT_KEY_RELIGION_JUDAISM_ADJECTIVE is still "Jewish". I'm not sure if that impacts anything in game, but it might. Just giving you a heads up.

EDIT: And the same with the adjective TXT_KEYS for Christianity (should be Catholic)

EDIT2: Also, instead of hardcoding a value of 3, may I recommend...

Code:
if ((pPlot->getFeatureType() != NO_FEATURE) && (pPlot->getFeatureType() != (FeatureTypes)GC.getInfoTypeForString("FEATURE_FLOOD_PLAINS")))

Also, I think I figured out the cause of the multiple Mongol horde events. It's cuz the Mongols lose and then regain their contact, thereby giving them another stack.

Might be an idea to make European civs less likely to vassalize to each other, it didn't really happen in real life but often happens in the game

Thanks, will be included into the next commit.

China changes will be included there as well.

Edit: finally got India and China to make halfway decent city placements from their new capitals (never mind that Chang'an got barbrazed in the attached screenshot).

And I just realized that Kaifeng is an insane city spot if no other cities take away its resources ;)

Anyway, I'll commit now.

Great victory! Are you going to make terrain changes to the south and east of India, or are you more or less done there?

Also, on the last version, I noticed the Zoroastrian emblem was not showing up above the city bar when the religion was present. I'm not sure why, as every previous game, it's shown up.
