Would it be possible/feasible to add minor religions to DoC in the same way that they are in RFCE and Sword of Islam? If so, then how about adding Judaism in this form and maybe demoting Taoism?

There, you got 7 minor religion, just the same number as the religion and corporation.

Minor religion allows player to build a building that gives effect, and gone by persecution or change of city owner.

The rest such as Kermetism, Ashurism, Shintoism, Incan, Traditional African, Mithraism, Wicca, Ahmadiya, Kebatinan, Rastafarianism, Maya, Aztec etc only followed by like 1 civilization in the game and doesn't really influence.

I sometimes question the value of Taoism in the game myself. I can't think of any wonder that requires it? Zoroastrianism is pretty minor in the overall scheme of things too, but at least it is required to build the Mausoleum.

The symmetry you suggest of 7 majors and 7 minors has a lot to like about it. The specifics of which minors might need a bit of discussion though.

I sometimes question the value of Taoism in the game myself. I can't think of any wonder that requires it?

None of the Confucian Wonders except Forbidden Palace can be said to have anything to do with Confucianism at all. In many cases it's the opposite - they are directly related to religions which competed against Confucianism. So, you might as well change them to require Taoism because it will be just as fitting.

The Great Wall and Terracotta Army were completed during Qin Dynasty which followed state Legalism and persecuted Confucianism. Qin Shi Huang was famous for burying Confuician scholars alive.

The Grand Canal was constructed during the Sui and Tang dynasties during which Buddhism was by far the most influential religion in China both among the elite and the common people.

The Porcelain Tower is covered with Buddhist religious images and important Buddhist relics have be found in it.

Even the Forbidden Palace has little to do with Confucianism. Its builder, the Youngle Emperor, was a religious liberal who sponsored many religions including Taoism, Buddhism, and Islam.

I think these Chinese Wonders should be changed to require Silk (plus the appropriate religions such as Buddhism in case of Porcelain Tower) instead. Except maybe the Forbidden Palace.

I'm of the opinion that if one of the Chinese religions gets removed, it should be Confucianism. And Taoism should remain as China's only default religion. After all that was Leoreth's original design.

The AI doesn't prioritize the Drill line I believe,
so in effect, this change will restrict it to only the human player.
I don't think Himeji should be changed.

The current implementation of Confucian wonders is alright to me as well;
the only thing I think needs a change is to switch founding Taoism to Mathematics,
and Confucianism conditional on building a Taoist Temple.

You got the exact same problem with Trafalgar Square.

But the problem with Himeji Castle Drill IV requirement is much less since Japan's UU starts with Drill I, and Drill IV means you only need a Samurai of 6 XP. And because of this combination of UU and UP I've seen AI Japan get Samurai promoted along the Drill line quite often. I'll try to load some autoruns and post screenshots if I can get them.

Yeah, you're absolutely right on this one.

I just think Silk makes slightly better sense than Confucianism for the Great Wall or Terracotta Army, and Taoism makes the same amount of sense as Confucianism. It accomplishes the same purposes in gameplay but contradicts fewer historical facts.

OK I loaded one 600AD Congo start (Monarch, Normal).

Here are some Drill 2/Drill 3 Samurai by AI Japan:

So we can either:

(1) Give Samurai free Drill 1 + Drill 2 Promotions - it makes little difference, just remove one of their 2 free First Strikes to counterbalance the free Drill 2

or

(2) Make Himeji Castle require 2 Melee units of Drill 3 Promotion + Silk. Problem solved.
