So that's the basic, real basic and brief, history of Byzantium complete with maps. Hence why I sort of take issue with its UHV goals.
I see nothing bad with its UHV's. Some UHVs require you to achieve more then you did in history.

true, it's more of a personal issue.

What would you like as their UHV goals?

I would imagine,

1. Make Constantinople the largest, richest and most cultured city in Europe by (oh I don't know) the 11th century?
2. Own the Balkans and Asia Minor by 1025.
3. Do not collapse/lose Constantinople prior to 1453.

(I realize that 3rd goal overlooks the 4th Crusade of 1204, but I've noticed once Constantinople is sacked, Byzantium collapses too quickly...You should have a chance to retake it.)

hi everybody, i'm playing with japan...
I would known what means control Indocina or the territories requested: i've to own/build a number of cities or only the culture?
thx :-)

2. Own the Balkans and Asia Minor by 1025.
3. Do not collapse/lose Constantinople prior to 1453.

2 will not be challenging as ome of the Balkans will flip to you, iirc, at starts, and there's little effort on the enemy side to take it from you.

3 is too easy, imo. You just need to put like thousands army fortify the Constantinople~ the Turks won't stand a chance.

3. Do not collapse/lose Constantinople prior to 1453.
These are pretty easy and boring goals.

That's pretty uninteresting imo. Sometimes you have to exaggerate actual achievements to put them into challenging gameplay terms. My reasoning behind the goals:

1) 5000 gold by 1000 AD: Dominance of early medieval Byzantium over the Mediterranean trade, hard currency, general wealth of the emperors. It serves as a nice incentive to tie up resources that could otherwise go into unrealistic research or military buildup.
2) Constantinople - size and culture in 1200 AD: Kind of obvious for Byzantium, I chose 1200 AD because it has definitely passed its zenith after the Fourth Crusade.
3) Territory goal in 1450 AD: That's basically the "survive until" goal made more challenging through "survive and recover". I chose 1450 since it's their historical collapse date, and the areas because it basically requires you to retake everything you lost during the course of the game to various spawns or invasions (or alternately, fight off these events right away).

Culture is not enough, you actually have to have cities there (two, I think. I just vassalized Thailand so I don't know). Culture doesn't matter at all, as far as I know, but you need more cities in Indochina than Thailand.

All of the cities in the area must be independent or controlled by your vassals or yourself.

Just played an India game with the latest release (1.9 iirc?). I really enjoyed playing them, especially with the synergy they have with city-states. This civic is a very ingenuous way to justify placing cities close together.

One question though, I read that settling on a resource gives yields as if there was an improvement on it, is it in the latest release or only in the SVN?

That's a very recent change in the SVN.

I think there needs to be a bit more rebalancing- as France, I was able to tech to Optics and upgrade to a Caravel by 1155 AD. I was playing Viceroy, Epic speed.

^What civ_king said. Took the words right out of my mouth.
Not to mention playing slower speeds is pretty much equivalent to playing 1-2 difficulties lower than the difficulty you are actually playing on.
Not meant to be an insult or anything. I won't go as far to use terms like "Maranoob". Just whatever floats your boat.
It's just common consensus in Civ5 (and for the most part, BtS) that this definitely seems to be the case.

EDIT: Also, if you really wanted to gun for things, I could get Astro or Liberalism in the mid 1000s on Normal Speed.
I don't even tech well. Look into the DoC Domination Challenge thread and see Jusos getting Stealth in like the 1700s (same speed setting).

Maybe I am just a noob but I am pretty sure that DoC is much harder than normal Civ4 and RFC.

Other than that, I'm greatly enjoying the 3000BC Turkey start I've been playing through. Even had uber Holy Rome take over Jerusalem and Tyre :goodjob:

When Austria become French vassal, it s call Confederation of Rhine, old relic of Germany, dont think that name is appropiate for austria.

The Confederation of the Rhine name should probably move to Germany completely. I haven't gotten around to address the difference between Austria and the HRE.

Hi everybody...
I'm playing with Khmer civ, but I'm unable to complete the 1st goal:
I build the 4 Hindu and Buddhist monasteries, but I fail build the Wat Preah before 1200 AD.
I need too much time to discover Philosophy... I tried many times, set my cities in different places (but they are not so much, cause for the Jungle), or conquering cities in different time...
Did any of you win this goal??
