You can kill China quite easily as Persia too since AI China builds mostly Archers and takes forever to hook up its Bronze or Iron.

I appreciate both the content of this post and the attempt at German, even if slightly flawed

I'm of the opinion that if one of the Chinese religions gets removed, it should be Confucianism. And Taoism should remain as China's only default religion. After all that was Leoreth's original design.

To be honest, that original design was constrained by my inability to add new religions at the time, so Confucianism had to go for Zoroastrianism.

But I'm generally open to change the Confu/Tao relationship as well as the associated wonders.

(It's not possible though to tie wonder conditions to existing promotions though, the closest we can do is unit levels.)

I think Taoism should be removed. It's strange to have China be muddled with Confucianism and Taoism. Taoism seems so out of place in this mod, never having any nations ever really adopt it as state religion. No building even needs Confucianism. No other "religion" is this trivial.

Taoism would do better as a wonder, Chinese UB, or as an event for Confucianism.

Perhaps it could also be a building that requires silk and buddhism?

The main reason to keep Taoism as it is is the Chinese UHV.

I think minor religion is the better approach, and might allow a return of Judaism as well.

I don't even think it should be a minor religion. The islamic schism is more important. Plus, it's easy to come up with a new Chinese UHV.

How about this, Taoism is a minor religion that only spreads to cities that have Confucianism and the Taoist Pagoda is the only building associated with it. It would be cheaper than regular cathedrals and require no temples. If this is implemented, then the Chinese goal could require two Taoist Pagodas, two Confucian Academies, and two Buddhist Stupas.

Couldn't it work with Buddhist Stupas? Buddhism is just as widespread in China as Confucian philosophies, and China already automatically gets some Buddhist missionaries early enough.

Because it's hard to define how minor is a religion is.

Tao is philosophy, Shinto is philosophy....
...but Manichaenism is religion -_- Judaism is also a religion.

I think it's very hard to define what is a religion or a philosophy too, once you leave the context of Abrahamic religions.

Minor religion would be only a gameplay term without any implication about the religion itself.

No. And not only, less than that. I could see including Judaism and demoting Taoism, bringing us to a total of 8 religions.

Sikhism already has a wonder so that is a possibility too.

With around 454 million adherents, or about 6.6% of the world population, Chinese folk religion is one of the major religious traditions in the world.

Taoism is there to represent various Chinese traditional religions, it makes it into Top 5 most practiced religions on this planet. I can see why people get irritated that you have to research all the way to Philosophy to found this religion -- but to demote it to minor religion status or even get rid of it -- is simply inaccurate .

Is it possible to tie specific religions to specific Civs' culture (correct me if this already implemented)? Meaning, spread of Hinduism and Taoism/Confucianism are only possible with say 50% presence of Indian/Indonesian and Chinese/Korean cultures, respectively.
