Fall patch is out

Also Dennis, would it be possible to re-enable the pact of secrecy by just uncommenting all the relating lines in the DLL and LUA files that reference it?

I feel like this thread should be in tech support.

Still shows the same :dunno:.
The correct driver for you would be this, please try to install it.
EDIT: And ignore what the automatic detection says. Must be wrong somehow :dunno:.

Well, I tried twice to install this, both times apparently successfully, but when I look through the dxdiag, it shows the older driver still. Also still have the lines in Civ V.

This kinda stuff is aggravating to say the least.

Maybe it's better to uninstall the old one first :dunno:.

No, I guess I'll just uninstall Civ V. After two years and 1000 hours played, this attempt to make it "better" has embittered me to the point where I will do no more troubleshooting or jumping through hoops.

I'll miss playing for sure, but will have no aggravation from future "improvements".

Thanks for trying to help.

I'm sorry, but this is getting ridiculous. Not only are people having so many issues with the mods not working, I mean I still can't even get the damn GAME TO TURN ON AND UPDATE, and I've already uninstalled steam, (including all my games) and reinstalled everything AND STILL NOTHING WORKS. I still get Disk IO error, while countless others have crashes, option errors, etc. etc. etc.

Not to mention the completely unhelpful "support" from staff. I thought this was Firaxis, not Sega.

What the hell, Firaxis, did you not test this stuff out?

My game is working good at the moment. I have not tried to mess with any mods at all. I suppose downloading SDK again if I want Firaxis ModBuddy will be a pain.

When I uninstalled CiV, then steam. I deleted all steam folders, Sid Meier's Civilization 5folder, from documents, my games, on my pc. The only folder I left was Firaxis ModBuddy all my scenarios and mods are there. All my worldbuilder maps and single unit mods are in my documents. It is an unorganized mess right now. This has been the worst patch to work out in all the patches so far.

To Firaxis though, the game does play smooth, and the AI is much more aggressive. You have to keep your eye on it now. Polynesia invaded me with like 10 Maori warriors , and 5 archers. They came in two waves. I was glad I had a river for defense and Pictish warriors, otherwise I may not have survived.

When reporting bugs and blaming Firaxis for not testing the game, keep in mind this is the vocal minority. I'm willing to wager that most people are not experience the errors seen here, or to their severity. My game works 100% fine with no issues at all. Other people have said the same in here. It can be frustrating having problems with a game that you love, I know, but let's not be so entirely hasty to say that Firaxis dropped the ball here and the game is ruined.

Unlike many others here, my experience is that the patch has rendered the game unplayably slow. Before the patch, things ran fine, at least until near the end of the game. Now, when my turn comes up, I get the next turn 'banner' in the lower right, then after about 20-30 seconds, it will select a unit to move (trying to manually select the unit does nothing). I move it - no delay on the move itself, but then there's another 20-30 second delay before it selects another unit, and clicking the 'next unit' arrow does nothing. Once the last unit has moved, there's another 20-30 second delay before the unit's info box disappears, and then there's another 15-20 second delay before "A unit needs orders" changes to "Next turn". I'm only on turn 7, and it's taken some 20 minutes.

My graphics card (ATI Radeon) driver is up to date, I've got no graphics issues, and seen no error messages. I'm not enabling any mods. The amount of time between turns seems reasonable - it's not as long as the delay before each of my unit selections. It's just that the game takes a LONG time to select units on my turn. I've also noticed that, while waiting if a unit has already moved and has an info box in the lower left corner, ALL option icons display correctly, but when I mouse over the icon, every single one shows the pop-up text for ATTACK.

As mentioned, the game ran fine before the patch. Does anyone have any explanation of this behavior? Or do I have to finally and completely return to CIV4? Thanks.

DX 10 &11 works great so far, no mods, first game at turn 200 on large, epic. DX 9 was crashing and terrain texture problems. AI conquers CS and expand offshore much more. I'm impressed responses here have been productive for a problematic patch. Thanks devs for being somewhat vocal here.

Well open your eyes and look at the bug report thread. Take a look around at how active DShirk has been since yesterday. If you have to erase everything CiV from your pc, as if it's a virus. Yes, there is a problem. :crazyeye:

Yes DX10/11 works fine for me no mods as well.

I've only found two very minor problems, and one has to do with the Inca DLC, rather than the game itself (I assume that everyone gets the TXT_KEY_PROMOTION_WITHDRRAW_BEFORE_MELEE promotion on units that can withdraw from melee...very badly written...) and the other is just with the restart game option.

That being said I haven't tried to take a city yet, for instance.

I think the problem is that there is no (or no easy obvious) way to go back to the last patch for those that do have issues. Issues coming up in a patch aren't exactly uncommon, but with the patch being automatically downloaded, the problem becomes that those who have problems can't easily go back to the last patch until those problems are resolved.

Denrode is right, it is a minority of people with GAME-BREAKING bugs. The problem you had is isolated to you, and it was easily fixed by reinstalling the game.

Every computer is different and it is impossible to have it right for everybody. This is nothing new and it will always be a problem for PC gaming. There are over 30000 people playing at this moment and only a handful of people have come here with issues. Most of the issues are likely not even Firaxis' fault but the fault of outdated drivers.

Issues that are universal, such as the pathfinding bug and the erroneous Great General bonus text, can indeed be complained about, but these are far from GAME-BREAKING and are just a minor annoyance that will likely be fixed in the not-so-distant future.

They released the patch, on time as promised (actually earlier than I expected), and they are now working with the community to get a couple bugs fixed...what more do you want?

To those unable to play the game, I feel bad for you and I'm sorry, but you are the unlucky minority.

Either rar or zip. What would be most helpful is to cause a crash from something specific (like load a save), then go grab the corresponding .mdmp file and note what caused it. Thanks much.
Here is the save and dump.
Load save
Set all Artillery to Alert
Move galleass out of New Orleans
Produce a Seaport
Accept Deal from Japan
Very Well to someone
Crash!

my mods are always redownloading and always have to be checked. Also, i tried 2 different games and it ends up crashing as soon as i try to bombard a barbarian from a city. Whats up with this patch?

Why is it that so many people are trying to play with mods when for every(?) previous patch mods had to be updated to be compatible?

I don't think you need to reinstall the game from your disk if you have problems. There is the Steam directory and in this directory under CIV V I believe you could delete some files (forgot which ones). When you start steam back up it will look for CIV V, notice that it is not on your computer and automatically reinstall it... My game was crashing for a while a few weeks back, not going beyond the intro video and I read about this trick on the Firaxis troubleshooting site

Any response to this idea?

The bug reports subforum has now existed for more than 2 years...

I'd still say it's a harddisk problem, but somewhere else in the .net it was mentioned that such a problem could be fixed by reinstalling Steam :dunno:.

Don't know if this helps anyone but I verified the integrity of the game after it patched?

Had no probs and it worked for me for the last patch too. Could just be voodoo nonsense of course, but what the hey.
