Fox09 - This Means War!

^^The problem with that is that we'll only have acess to libraries in 4 ( finish Priesthood ) + 13 ( Writing ) turns @ current research rate ( i.e we can't chop for library now ) . The MM I proposed takes 16 turns + 1 to move for the plaind forested hill, so it is not perfect as well ( the ideal was to chop the forest in the turn we start the library ) , but IMHO is the best we can get.

I suggest we forget abt CS slingshot and instead go for grabbing CoL using the oracle to get ourselves a religion. IMHO, once we get the marble on-line, we should switch to oracle for the CoL. This will get the GP points running.

Anycase, the Pyramids is worth much more than the CS-slingshot (compare the time to get to CS on our own versus the time to get to Representation), though I admit we probably have a longer window for Pyramids.

I agree on a library somewhere in between, but we could whip instead of chop.

I've been doing a test game for this ( tons of fun hammering down AI fleets ) and CS slingshot is feasible with a Ind or Fin leader in Monarch in OCC. I agree that is a high stake gamble but having + 50% hammers and coins 50 turns earlier ( this is epic... I'm not exagerating ) is Huge. After that we can pick all the wonders you want and some you don't want or build a nice army to crack some skulls. I think that it is worth the shot.

I think MC for colossus may be a good one. The early forge + Colossue (bronze!) will be a nice boost and it doesn't have the risks of the CS sling too. I'm more than willing to go with the MC sling instead. Other thoughts?

@r_rolo1: 50 turns??? Why 50 turns? A slingshot only saves you the turns to research CS. You telling me it is going to takes us 50 turns to research CS (once we have researched Writng, Mathematics and CoL)?

Seriously, the CS slingshot is powerful, but not that powerful. It is definitely not worth risking other wonders.

But these are MHO, and I am pretty biased ;)

@Ozzy: reason why I did not suggest MC is because it is not in our current research path (need IW, while we seems to be heading towards writing and mathematics).

I was exagerating ;) but I really think that we're not risking the other wonders ( IMHO we don't have a Ind foe... Henge and GW are not done yet ).
I really think that is worth the shot....

As for risking other wonders by chasing CS slingshot, I agree we're not risking the Pyramids but we are risking The Oracle itself. Better to get something from it, than come up empty. In a non-OCC game, the cash for losing Oracle would be welcome but money is never really an issue in OCC.

I would say start Oracle as soon as Marble on-line and research either Writing (take CoL) or Pottery (Metal Casing). I would say MC but...

N00bish Lurker Alert:
I wouldn't put too much on the colossus; it can get you about another 8 commerce, and that isn't that much when you recall that OCC are inevitably SE with basically zilch cottages. Other wonders are worth MUCH more attention.

Ok, played my short set. Since the trend seems to be two techs, I followed suit. I continued researching meditation and priesthood while juggling some tiles around to maximize growth against the whip anger. We're now size 5 :king:

Civ4ScreenShot0051.jpg

Meditation was completed on turn 68. The marble quarry was finished on turn 71. It turns out that we don't need a road to connect the marble (I haven't figured out how this bug works but sometimes you don't need sailing to connect the resources along a river in bts). I have moved the worker to the plains hill but I haven't made him do anything yet.

Oracle will take 12 turns to finish with the current tiles being worked. Pottery is 6 turns, writing is 10 turns. If the worker chops the forest, it's 5 turns. However, since the plains hill forest is being worked, I'd prefer to go straight to a mine - which takes 11 turns. So his action partly depends on what we're going to do tech wise. No wonders or religions were completed during my set so I think the oracle is in the bag for now.

My recommended plan is to set the worker to mine the oracle and continue building it while we tech pottery. We can then tech writing after that for slightly cheaper. We can chop overflow the oracle on the last turn and send the overflow in to the pyramids. Then take MC off the oracle and start a forge while we road up the gems. This will provide 2 :) once the forge is complete allowing us to grow larger (and in the mean time, we can also build a 3rd workboat for the other clams).

My joke:
A Texan meets a Harvard grad and asks "Hi there, where are you from?" The Harvard grad replies "I come from a place where we do not end our sentences with prepositions." The Texan thinks for a while. Then he replies "Ok, where are you from f*cker?"

lurker's comment:

AFAIK you won't need sailing, if the connecting part of the river is completely in your cultural boundaries.

Btw, this thread makes for an interesting lurk. :) Makes me wish I had a CIV-capable pc here...

I got the same feeling too... I let the game with a mined sheep and 4 turns to priesthood.... shyuhe should had picked pholk's save instead of mine... ( mine is from 2250 BC and pholk's one is from 2500 BC )

Replayed :mischief: That was pretty bad on my part

So this time, I finished priesthood first. Then I teched pottery and am 1 turn from writing. I tried to look back in the log for the dates but BTS crashed. I'm guessing somebody's using BUG?:crazyeye:

We have two choices (well three if you include monarchy) for the Oracle right now; metal casting and CoL. The date is 1825 BC, and the stones were built about... 10 turns ago or so. GW is still yet to be built. I didn't see Judaism founded during my set and I *think* it's unfounded. So we can still push our luck on the oracle for a more expensive tech if we want.

The worker is trying to plant a mine on the plains hill.

Here's our city now:

Got it, probably for tomorrow.

I still think Metal Casing, build a forge and Colossus. Definately don't think we should risk a more expensive tech. I'm still cool on Code of Laws though. In any case, Mathematics should be our next tech, for the chopping bonus, so we can mine the three hills.

After Oracle, I would be inclined to build a exploring workboat to see if we can find anyone and then library.

That would be me ;)

I would postpone the Oracle, but you already know my opinion.... But one thing that we should not delay is the Mids. We need the extra :) to be competitive

P.S I don't think that collosus would be helpful enough to burn Oracle in it.....
