How rich is your area?

The median income for a household in the city in 2007 was $93,392, and the median income for a family was $100,736.

My zip code (60610 Chicago) is interesting because it includes Cabrini Green but it's slowly being torn down.

Average Household Income $124,699

Median Income Under 25 $54,884

For my *zip code the median household income is 53k per year.

That is slightly above the national average.

Mine is similiar.

Median for household: $57,550
For family: $69,023
1.8% of families and 3.2% of the population below the poverty line, including 1.1% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.

There are quite a number of really really freakin rich people, especially along the lake:

I have no idea if such statistics are available here.

I can only tell that the city just nearby, Mazamet, once was very rich.

Mazamet was the producer of cloth for the French army, and they invented a unique process for tanning and fellmongery.

They needed a lot of sheep skins for that industry, and a lot of trade networks with North Africa, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, New Zealands, were developped to meet these needs.

At the peak of the industry, just before WWII, 90% of the world "woollen skill" was processed in Mazamet.

In term of bank concentration, Mazamet was the second French city, just after Paris.

Unfortunately, competition, especially from Asia, put an end to this, and now there is only one leather factory still working here.

Neighboring city :

In my 'statistical division', the average total personal income is about $A40 000. It's slightly less for the surrounding suburbs, and about $A48 000 for Sydney as a whole. New South Wales is roughly $A45 000, and Australia is about $A42 600. It is interesting to note the difference between NSW and Tasmania, which is only at about $A37 000. That's all from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and from about 2005. Wikipedia doesn't have any really good stats for Australia.

$101,872 Househould
$108,108 Family.

I live in a northern suburb of Chicago and here is the Wikipedia demographics:

About 1.2% of families and 2.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.4% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over

Do posters in OT really live in towns that make that much? Wow, this is really telling.

Average Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) in 2004: $36,607

Frankly, did you expect poorer kids to be playing Civilization?

Santa Clara County has the highest median household income of any county in California.

Cost of living is high here, just like the rest of CA though.

According to wiki the median househould-income in Switzerland is $81,274. Since Basel is one of the richer areas in Switzerland I guess it's a tad higher where I live. Don't know how accurate those numbers are, though.

Corvallis, Oregon:

The median income for a household in the city was $35,236, and the median income for a family was $53,208. Males had a median income of $40,770 versus $29,390 for females. About 9.7% of families and 20.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.2% of those under age 18 and 6.0% of those age 65 or over.

I was unaware that 1/5th of the population is below the poverty line...

I'm just outside a town known as Wanaka, median house price is NZ $560,000.
Income, comfortable :D

One of the wealthiest in Australia from memory. Cost of living is higher than the rest of Australia though.
