I bet that's the real reason for the staff forum. The big secret isn't the sausage-making of forum moderation, it's that they need their own private spam forum to make up for all the spamming we're not allowed to do.

We certainly did that when I was modding a big forum. We'd laugh at and make fun of the posters and post all the "banned content" there for the other Mods enjoyment and talk about people behind their backs

There are a number of small subforums here, for groups for which PMs are not the answer. Such as several major Civ4 mod creation groups.(Actually, we wouldn't, since it is not public discussion of actions.
