This is probably just a problem with my Machine as I don't think its been mentioned before but it takes nearly ten mins for my saved games to load which seems ridiculously slow. The comp i'm using just about meets the Min requirements (1.2, 512 ram Geforce 5200 gfx) although i'm getting an upgrade very soon. Thing is I wouldn't have though this would affect the length it takes to load a game.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

The bigger the save file (map size is a big factor) the longer it takes to load. Smaller maps may take me a minute two to load, but a Huge Terra map took me half an hour.

Ahh well at least I know its not my Comp then :goodjob:

I think the game I setup was a huge map so that's ok. I'm not too bothered if I only load once per session but if I decide to reload an old save ingame then its going to be annoying lol

Same problem here (5-10 min with 512 ram, 128 mb geforce4 ti 4600). The loading times seem to become longer when I have played for a while - this worries me.

Reload times on Civ4 are a joke. However, if you reboot, and load from scratch, the time can be long but at least reasonable. NEVER try and reload a game mid game with a large, developed map. It'd be slower to reboot, TRUST me.

I have all the requirements for the game 128meg video card 768meg ram DirectX compatible drivers for both video and sound. The problem is when I set up a game it goes through all the sequences and then when the play game button is up ...it just sits there..no mouse icon ..no nothing.....is this what you folks are getting... thanks:mad:

P.S. I have managed to play one full game with no problems.....but now...can't even get it to start up...GRRRRRR

This MIGHT be the system still thinking. I noticed that the first time I played. The play button appeared but It still sat there for another few mins before I could do anything (can't remember if this was before or after I'd pressed play).

I can open an 80MB image file in Photoshop (a very resource-hungry app.) in about 30 seconds. But it takes 5 full minutes to open a 2MB file in Civ4?!?

Something just isn't right.

No, that's quite possible. Loading times are not determined only by file size but also by what kind of processing is required. When Photoshop opens an image in certain formats, it may just have to copy the contents of the image file into its memory, that's it. When Civ4 loads a savegame, it probably has to create thousands and thousands of objects within the engine. It's not just a matter of copying the save file into memory but the savegame has to be read in small chunks, and something has to be done for each chunk, and that "something" can be computationally quite intensive.

My pcs are way above the adviced requerements, and still loading takes 5-10 minutes.

This shouldnt happen... I love the game, but it sucks to see my brother and friends lose temper or hope too fast and run off to another game cause civ takes too long to load or freezes in modern era.

Never play a game on minimum requirements and complain about performance. ;)

Performance of the game is fine. Problem is loading times and don't think everyone who's been complaining has minimum requirements ;)

I would consider loading savegames as part of "performance". ;)

Only one person posted RAM above the XP minimum specs. No one posted above minimum specs for their CPU. No one mentioned what other programs they're running in the background. :)

I'm guessing, but loading a save game won't stress you GFX card much. It'll be your hard drive (we all have SATA RAID's, right? ;)), your CPU and your memory that count. If you are running with minimum RAM you may also run into paging issues, where your HDD comes in again, but at that point you've already lost anyway. ;)
