Monthly Competitions Submissions Thread II

I would like to ask if we can agree about limiting the entries to only one item, and not compilations (for the pcx contest). I could enter a compilation of a month's work too, but it beats the point, and after all there are no unit packs competing in the unit contest, so why have pcx packs compete in the pcx one?

Anyway i plan to enter a sole city set later on this month :)

I always was upset that Flamand had allowed more than one file, but once he started, the precedent was set and I just continued the contests with the rules he set out.

You and I can't change the rules quasi-unilaterally.

There would have to be referendum to find out if there is agreement amongst everyone else and it should be a strong majority of the votes to have it pass (maybe over 75%).

Feel free to post a poll.

BTW, continuing on a serious note, are you interested in taking over these competitions, you could could impose your will with a new set of rules, let me know.

I think you should put it publicly to all old/amicable members, if anyone wants to take over the contest. Personally i am not sure i would be the best choice to do it, and also my time in the future might be a lot more limited...
Thanks for the offer though :)

... so why have pcx packs compete in the pcx one?
So one could enter a city pcx or a walled version of the same city, but not both?

The strictest interpretation of such a rule would eliminate entry of a base terrain set. Yet making a dpc depends on making a dgp which depends on making a ggc which depends on making a cso which depends on making an sss and an ooo. So one could only enter an sss or an ooo since all other terrain types are spread across multiple pcx?

Even more ridiculously, applying a similar rule to units would mean that if a run flic was entered, then an attack animation of the same unit could not be offered as part of the competition. They are separate files.

Perhaps there should be a complementary rule that any preview posted should not include anything at all other than what is being entered in the contest. No combination previews such as terrain buildings with cities, or resources with landmark terrain should be allowed. Such images unduly influence the vote. People will - consciously or unconsciously - judge the multiple pcx as one entry rather than what is de facto a multiple entry.

Restrict images to be voted on to the actual game-ready pcx. No images in any other format since that opens the door to all sorts of manipulation of contrast, hue, saturation, resolution, palette mode, etc.

EDIT: The rule that pcx files should be completely new needs to be enforced as well. Tweaking a few pixels then re-entering a pcx is completely unfair to people who only enter new creations.

Yes, monkey, that is what i meant :pat:

So, Pounder, i know there is a precedent, but i would really hate to enter 5 cities as one file. It is overkill. Usually i create more than 5 each month, so could do something like that most of the time, but it would mean that the contest has stopped being fun and now is about who produces most work. Whereas with one work it is like in ancient Greek play competitions, when each writer entered a sole work, no matter how many he had written.

Full terrain combinations are an exception, but realistically how many of them make it to the contest? Very few. So i do not mind that.

What is the cut-off join date for "old"? Are 50 infractions enough to disqualify someone as "amicable"?

I support posting animated LHs, maybe the creators of those of previous months should update their winning entries accordingly, for a very high-quality yearly lh contest :)
