New NESes, ideas, development, etc

There are a bunch of other Awesome choices too besides the great houses, a Dayne would be free to call himself the 'Sword of the Morning' and weild Dawn! a Corbray with lady forlorne would be really interesting. Almost any family with a Valyrian steel sword would be cool Heartsbane, Redrain, Longclaw etc.!

Starlife, just read all your stuff. I was actually planning a Space 1889/Call of Cthulhu crossover campaign with some friends last summer- unfortunately, nothing came of that.

We've actually run tabletop-esque roleplaying campaigns on #nes, but I think it could work as a thread as well. I'm definitely interested.

BTW, no love for the Dutch Colonial Empire?

Awesome, Lord Iggy! Well, I've converted a lot of it into a NES at this point, but we can do a chat room version some day. I've always considered putting the Dutch in a campaign, but always thought they could come a little bit later on. Funny, I had a friend say a similar thing a while back.

Has anyone thought of doing an "Imperialism Lite" NES somewhat-board game inspired/similar to ASNES Motherhen in spirit, sometime in the mid/late-19th century or a "netherworld period" sometime around the industrial/colonial era?

A long time ago I had some rough designs for a NES like that. I'd definitely play if someone else started one.

Here's a good map of Westeros if anyone is curious i may get one or a few that are more detailed but this would work fine its a pretty good pic

wouldn't mind the starks. Remember yelling at the book, asking why they didn't just adopt a scorched earth policy against the Lannisters.

In a world where winters last many years scorched earth seems kinda suicidal.

Also they did pretty well. Probably would have been able to win if it wasn't for the completely unforeseen problems of Edmure's being too competent and Robb growing up a little too quickly.

Well NEd's 'Honor' is really what did them in the whole war coulda been averted if he'd just had robert cut that b!tch's head off

If you do end up doing the NES, I might be interested in the Mallisters of Seagard.

That, a member of the kingsguard (prolly wanna be the commander)/ lord commander of the knights watch/ the sword of the morning (obviously not Arthur you gotta make up your own name or find a family histoy)/ or even a hedge knight who works his way to fame winning tourneys, there are lots of interesting people you could be who arnt the high lords if thats your thing!

Has anyone here played Masters of Magic? That game was awesome. There was also a Civ2 scenario on Fantastic Worlds I think? AM I sounding ancient here?

It'd be cool to someday have a NES kind of like Masters of Magic. Each player is a wizard and from their own dimension. That dimension also comes with a special society that the player can also create (Masters of Magic had stuff like elves and goblins and wyrms... I hope other people know what I'm talking about). Maybe a backstory like, all wizards were pushed out of the world and locked in their own dimension by a powerful super-wizard race. Then that race destroyed the whole world and disfigured it (and then left), but the locked dimensions are now re-opened. So it would be kind of like Civilization, but Masters of Magic version. Everyone starts out with one settlement - and they are going to repopulate the fantasy world with their own separate societies. The map would be left mostly dark until it is further explored. People would even be able to change around terrain using magic. Build new cities - old ones grow. Wars can happen between the different societies. Etc. In MoM, they had world-effecting spells and stuff. It was pretty fun. A 4X kinda game.

@Freemanuncg: You should try your NES idea, though. I don't know anything about those books. So I don't know if I'd be able to participate. But I hear everyone talking about them so maybe I should invest time into reading at least the first one this summer.

Masters of Magic was an awesome game.

Hey, question here.

I remember the time back in the day when all wars, unless specifically sneaky-type, were declared in thread. Now-a-days people always always declare mid-turn unless seeking a dogpile or making a point. What is your position of In-Thread Declaraction of war? Personally, I don't want to be the only one doing it and be taken advantaged on for normal wars and alliances, but looking over old NESes makes it much more clear how there seems to be a lack of DOWs.

What system was it for?

Also the complexity of the world is what would make it so fun for an NES you would be able to find pretty much any information about the history of the world or your character in the established cannon.

But at the same time you would Strictly Have to have read them to play the game cuz uu could look up anything u wanted to know on a wiki or ask someone

Yeah Birdjaguar!

It was for PC. But I still play it because I got an application to play classic games. That and Masters of Orion. But I always liked Masters of Magic more. I loved the different spells and how you choose what class of magic you prefer and that alters your abilities/stats. MoO had good features, too, of course - but I don't know. Something about MoM I loved. Good times!
