New NESes, ideas, development, etc

That actually looks pretty interesting. I like the magic archetypes

I thought the 'skills/disadvantages' thing from last time was a pretty interesting model for character creation, so this might be more prone to minmaxing if you can create a character without disadvantages. Just my two cents, and thinking how I'd game the system. :p

I would love to join that game, but you should group the archetypes into 3 'arche-archetypes,' and a player chooses an arche-archetype and then chooses two with in those. The three arche-archetypes would be:

Scholar:
Mystic
Vancian
Technomancer

Prayer:
Missionary
Shaman
Summoner

Nature:
Beastmaster
Wild man
Sorceror

Just my thoughts.

(And this game looks epic!)

Well, let's say that the previous team screwed up mightily and only a few survived to tell the tale. Maybe a few of them will be able to come back for the new mission.

About the Advantages/Disadvantages: you are right, they should be part of the character's stats.

Also, about the abilities, this time I will not allow players to make encompassing abilities like "Firearms". I will only let the abilities be about the use of a certain thing.

About Arrow Gamer's proposal: it is a good idea, but not sure if it is possible to mix Beastmaster with Wild Man, for example. Also, mixing the Vancian with a Technomancer would easily be powergaming, because that mix could be quite lethal.

About starting... well, maybe next Friday I'll be able to do something. Hopefully, by then I should be able to create a list of costs of building the different rooms.

You've probably already seen my thread, but in case you have not, i have a new NES open for sign ups. It's a large large earth map, (i want to say that is fresh start, but i'm not entirely sure on the definition on that. It begins right before the bronze age, if that's a bit more accurate in case the other label was off)

PRE-DominatrNES II

Have a look, sign up if you like what you see. :)

How to host a dungeon: A world building game.

A fun way to build a world in which we could adventure. Thoughts, interested mods/world builders?

Edit: Also, I know that there is a #nes group that plays DND, but has there ever been a DND game hosted on this subforum? Thread-form?

Several DnD style games, IIRC. ex-FFHers went for that sort of thing during a derth of good FFH-esque games.

EDIT: Try searching for Dragonsong, I hope I got his name right.

I do recall that. Of Merchants and Warriors or something. Also a Dark Galaxy RPG.

Two things that would be cool

1) A program that can run this semi-automatically, prompting only for names/details which can be pre-added to a "dictionary", and which uses fractals for detail.

2) De-randomizing this and running it as a NES, with a result as a free dungeon any NESer can borrow for their own groups. On another note, running the result as a NES is possible, but with the reference thread out in the open it won't be as "exploratory".

Really? That's unfortunate, the galaxial map was very nice.

@Terrance: Why not DF?

Also, we should just make a bunch of maps for kicks. After de-randomizing it, sort of like my game that we world-built. I would want a community-built map that we could explore though :'(

Well, I'm using what I think is an even nicer map in my own NES, so it doesn't sting that much Eltain. ;)

@ Eltain: I never said no DF?

That would be cool for a community-explore map thing. However, either we can do it semi-secretly and then be co-DMs for the rest of the community, or we can have everyone contribute and then admire the result, and then try to stay IC when we explore it. (other options are certainly possible!)

People could design different parts of a map, maybe each person would design a subcontinent, a peninsula, or an island chain, and one person sort of puts them together like a puzzle. That way, everyone can contribute, yet still maintain the novelty of exploring a relatively unfamiliar map. :D

That would be very cool, yes.

The Map Gatherer would also be responsible for modding the dungeon crawl, probably.

Also, do you know what would be awesome? A 3d version of the dungeon-making thing! Hurray for layers!

The only way I can think of to do that is to display it in the form Fulton did in his Warhammer NES set in that breeder hive planet. And that was a bit of a headache for me to follow, but that was probably a personal thing.

Or did you mean Gimp/Photoshop layers?

Also Menzoboranzan comes to mind. That would be an excellent place for an NES. Such a cray place.

You know what this makes me want to do?

Start a NES based on pre-Wave Zanomar. Humans vs Swiech vs Issith fight for ore, trade, portages and ports!
