Oh yes!

I agree that an all-story NES on that topic would be a bit too much. The premise reminds me of LINES I a bit, actually - you know, with all that weird magic used, especially by the North American powers (Hyperborea and that nation Erik Mesoy played). IMHO it worked quite fine, especially with Iggy's inexperience taken into consideration. I do agree that deciding upon the conspiracy theories will be a bit difficult; the serious (world government) conspiracies themselves (you know, the Zionist Occupation Government and so forth) may be a bit too much, due to being unbalanced and incompatible with each other, although malevolent manipulative stateless factions sound like fun if they don't start out in absolute and unchallengeable control.

The various UFO conspiracies, supersoldiers and telepaths are a must-have. Arcane artifacts also, but their powers are often vague.

Cthulhu may be a bit too far-off, and not really/necessarily in the same theme.

I suppose that in the end everything will depend on the judgement of the mod in charge. Any volunteers?

I dunno, one of my favorite obscure conspiracy theories involves a secret war between the supporters of the Inklings and the evil Lovecraftian cultists.

It'd be really nice if there were some simple way of creating countdown timers for the Orders Due thread. I know it's fairly easy to do with either Javascript or Flash (or even HTML--which is unfortunately disabled for "security reasons") but having no experience with either I wouldn't know where to start, nor how to link them into a post even if I did (since CFC doesn't support Flash objects... probably not Java applets either).

Nothing inspires doom and panic like a timer counting down to zero.

<snip>. I guess you could just put in a link on the page and direct players to it. Working on getting something better, since this is hijacked remote code.

Good idea, that would help me a lot. (i have an great aversion to math) Also please acknowledge Symph thought of the idea and give him credit or he'll whine :p

No, I'll whine if you're a bloody hypocrite in your opinions about it. :p

Has anyone ever come up with a rolling system to detemine beginning stats? Instead of everyone starting with the same stats, some might start with more military, culture, population, etc.
Might spice things up a bit, eh?

That's a fairly decent idea. Could probably arrange it by a D&D style system, though you'd probably want the Mod rolling "dice" just to ensure security. Erik used a system (albeit confined to a single ship class) like that for ENES starting stats which I thought was an interesting approach.

So, I've been working on a tech tree for my current project(s) to cover late 19th through to mid-21st century technology. This is the framework so far (by no means done; missing all the biological and social concepts and most crosslinking [sort of like Civ4 techs can have prereqs elsewhere on the tree, so should some here; eg, Materials Technology and Semiconductors]):

Tech_Tree.png

It might look familiar to some people. Technologies are classified by general purpose; Teal is Discover, Green is Explore, Mustard is Build, and Red is Conquer. Some of the arrows are miscolored. It's mostly from my own suppositions and Civ tech trees--it's based on general technological concepts, under each of which is a series of specific breakthroughs (for example, under Applied Electricity you'd have things like Lightbulbs and Generators, which would pass into usage; and other things you might think up). Units would be enabled by obtaining several technologies required; an MBT might require Composites, Internal Combustion, Plastic, Mass Production, and Integrated Circuits, for example.

The point of it is to give you a general progression with both definite effects and player-created effects. For example, with Electronics (which includes say, TVs) maybe your totalitarian regime might begin a new propaganda program, or try and develop TVs that also spy on people 1984 style.

I'm still working on the titles for each Technology and what goes on the list, feel free to make suggestions.

How about a NES where we all play crazy pseudo-religious cults, the various evil outer-space deities providing us with tasks and the occasional artillery support?

The problem is that there often are various deadline irregularities; see DNES2, or, alas, ITNES I. Still, this is a great idea.

That can be remedied with a simple note that some additional leeway is available, methinks.

On the tech tree, maybe change the text colours for more contrast?

Graphics are by no means final there. It'll be finalized before it's put into something spiffy looking. Perhaps including little tech icons, if I'm really bored or something.

I meant that dark on black may be a bit difficult to read.

I can read it fairly well, but here's a brighter text version (with fixed arrows):

Gah! Refrigeration is still misspelt!

;)

Sounds like fun... though I doubt there would be enough support.
