New Units: Native Americans 4/7/04

Looks absolutely amazing, and as R8XFT said, a settler would be nice. Perhaps a squaw (spelling) with a horse by her side and a baby on her back?

What program are these done in btw?

Only one itsy bitsy thing that disturbes me with the Native Horseman (should there ever be one, that is- which I strongly hope, nonetheless :)) there are no horses in America- at least there were none b4 the Spaniards came and re-imported the 'Caballos'. Natives would later domesticate wild horses for their own new hunting and war tactics... how can one simulate the late appearance of such Nat. Am. units properly... any ideas anyone ?

Make a resource called mustangs, that would be required for the riding units you need in America. Have it come later in the the tech tree.

WERE THERE ANY DOUBT WE 'NEED' IT

I think you'd want the horseman unit available regardless just for random map games if nothing else.

I'd just use the tech availability to control the use of horses myself (I think its too good a unit to pass up - plus who's to say if it wouldn't be an appropriate unit depending on how a game were to play out?)

Very nice, any Native American units are nice. :goodjob:

The unit I hope for most would be a Cherokee Lighthorse Patrol unit. The Lighthorse Patrol were the enforcers of the Cherokee government which was set up in 1794. They were on horseback and were adorned with cloth clothing which were red. The Lighthorse Patrol's also wore turbans with feathers in the front.

I know it will be difficult to create such a unit but it would be the UU to the final Cherokee Civilization Mod. It would be a great cavalry replacement for the Iroquois as well, you could always omit the turbans because not all Cherokee's wore them, usually politicans. There is no picture, painting, etc. of the Lighthorse Patrol, not even in the Cherokee Nation archives because the Lighthorse were in the old Cherokee Nation which was in Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina, the current and official Cherokee Nation is in Oklahoma.. =P.

Sounds reasonable- and converges at about the point I had thought about (I also added Camels and changed Ivory to an Elephants resource, so why not mustangs :))

What Kal-El, do you have unit lines for every civ in the game or something?

Nope, not for every civ, just the ones I have done concept sketches for.

And even though horses weren't available to north america until the arrival of the Spanish, in a random map game it is quite possible, and more than likely, that horses will be available to the iroquois, in which case, it the native horseman would be nice to have.

And we all await more sketches Kal-el... And how about sketches for more units: riflemen, infantry, cavalry, worker, settler etc as well...

Im going to learn how to make units myself, so in the future I would love to some of you suggestions. Right now, I'm having trouble as it is with a plane.

Can't wait for the others to be done :)

You should consider doing some Musketmen variations. We've got Asian, Native American, European and even Greco/Roman Musketmen variations, how about some Mesoamerican(The Eagle Musketman...) , African, or Ancient Egyptian(Anubis Musketman....mhahahaha!)

How about musketmen named after the god with the head of a Crane? the flintlock could be shaped like a crane.

Hi Kal-el,

Do you mean the ibis? -- If so, this bird was sacred to the moon-god Toth. IMHO "Musketmen Of Toth" has a nice ring to it. A banner with a moon and a flintlock like an ibis -- very good indeed.

Best,

Oz

There's a Mesoamerican musketman out there. It's called "Tlechuahuitl".
