Obama May Hold 'Kenyan, Anti-Colonial' Worldview

woops, I *meant* the 2000 one.

Well OK. I'm guessing you supported Gore?

Do you agree though, that the Florida Supreme Court was trying to cheat? Bush won like 13 recounts, what if Gore had won the 14th? They would have not recounted, because they wanted Gore to win, even though there is no guarantee that count would have been accurate.

Bleh, are we still re-litigating Bush v Gore?

In futile hope of saving some time, I'll just rattle off the key facts.

Bush very probably got more votes in total then Gore, but we aren't entirely sure.
Both campaigns did questionably legal and undoubtedly unethical things during the recount. If we lived in a better world, they'd both have been disqualified for it.
Bush had a better recount team, in part due to Rove's familiarity with close elections in general and recounts in the specific.
The Florida Supreme Court was very sweet on Gore. The SCOTUS was evenly divided, and voted for Bush with 5-4 split on political grounds, with a very chancy legal justification for getting involved.

As long as we are on the subject, how accurate was HBO's movie on the 2000 issue, Recount with Dennis Leary?

By the way, Domination, you never did get back to me on...

Thoughts? :mischief:

I'm confused as to what you mean here. Can you try rewording it here?

They never even completed one recount. The Federal Supreme Court nixed that idea.

Not true:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_v._Gore

They'd recounted several times.

Bleh, are we still re-litigating Bush v Gore?

I kinda wanted to know if you guys were sensible enough to admit BUSH DID WIN whether you like it or not.

Actually, Gore did win the popular vote officially, but Bush won the electoral vote.

Not a horrible idea considering I don't like either of them:mischief: but what would have happened then? Third party candidate given the presidency? I like it;)

The election went to Bush every time.
The Florida Supreme Court was very sweet on Gore.

Thanks for admitting.

Do you see why I don't take SCOTUS Seriously? Politics had nothing to do with it! For instance, say the Californian, New York, and Floridian Supreme Courts all decided Mccain had won the election (I know this is crazy, but bear with me.) If I were on SCOTUS, I'd vote it down because like it or not OBAMA DID WIN! 8 Years prior, Bush won!

Yes, I agree. If the conservatives on the bench would stop imposing their political views on everything in order to legislate from the bench, the Supreme Court would be a better place.

I'd like to see where this has happened, but, if it has, I'd agree with you.

However, the liberals have done so many times, often INTERFERING with the constitution:

Roe VS Wade- (Contradicts the right to life)

Repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell (Nothing there letting them do it)

How is ordering a statewide recount cheating the system?

Because Bush won, and if Gore won the second time they'd just have stuck with it. But besides, they ordered many recounts.

How is ordering a statewide recount cheating the system?

Only republicans can call for a recount.

You claim that "republic" refers to constitutional popular government, "democracy" to, in essence, mob rule. How do you reconcile that with the elected government of the United Kingdom, which, being a monarchy, can not be considered a republic, or with the unelected of the People's Republic of China?

Heh. Norm Coleman deserves to be relegated to internet obscurity for his political BS.
(For those who don't know, there was a big issue in the Minnesota Senate Race where numerous Absentee Ballots were mismarked. Norm Coleman asserted that he would step down and conceed to Al Franken if the court said that Franken had the majority. (At the time of that statement Norm had the majority.) However, once Franken got the majority, Coleman began ordering the ballot equivalent of 'The Hunt for Red October' and dragged the proceedure out for months.)
Here is an article on it:

Heh. I love Minnesota.

Repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell (Nothing there letting them do it)

yes, there is.

U.S. Constitution Article 1 said:
The Congress shall have Power ... To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces

Congress regulated it by passing DADT in... '96? whenever. Anyway, now that law that they passed has been declared unconstitutional, which by the way, is constitutional.
Federal courts enjoy the sole power to interpret the law, determine the constitutionality of the law, and apply it to individual cases.
All of these proceedings are perfectly constitutional, however much anyone may disagree with them.
