Yes, it’s based of the difference in diplo visibility. The mongols uniquely get an extra level from a trading post, but sending a trade delegation or spy also adds 1 level. Consider doing this to notch a level over him. (Reject their trade delegation/embassy while sending your own to get another leg up.)
 
Quick question. My last game, I unlocked a perk which allowed my builders to complete 5 improvements instead of 3. I found it super helpful mid-game. But I can’t remember what the perk was or how it was a achieved. Does anybody know what it was? I was playing as America.

It's called Serfdom and is available after researching (surprisingly) Feodalism.

It's taking about citizen slots which is another way to refer to the specialist slot some buildings have. Essentially it's like working a normal tile except multiple citizens can work the tile. In theory this combats the shrinking space of a city as its districts occupy more and more land.
 
Now that I have reinstalled Civ6, whenever I load up the game the Map Settings (Grid, Lake Names, etc.) reset to the default, any way to keep them fixed?
 
Playing as Qin, I suddenly noticed I kept receiving some (variable?) amount of science for every city I converted into my religion.
Is it an undocumented feature of China? Or something else?

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere but I'm not hitting on the right combination of search terms to find it.

I'm a little confused about grievance penalties. I get that if I'm at war with some civilization, and I capture their cities, they accumulate grievances against me. When the war ends, and I keep the cities, the grievances slowly begin to decline, a few points per turn. That all makes sense, and I don't expect that civilization to be friendly toward me again.

However, it seems that other civilizations get negative modifiers toward me (not grievances), based upon "You caused grievances to others," and these do not decline even after the original grievance has decayed away to zero.

Is it possible to have wars with some civilizations and remain friendly -- like, friendly enough to have friendships and alliances -- with other civilizations? I am just finishing up a domination game in which obviously everyone hates me by the end, which is fine, but earlier on, when I'd only gone to war with civilizations on my continent, it would have been helpful to maintain decent relations with those on the other continent. And even in a non-domination game, sometimes it's necessary to have a war or two (sometimes you don't get a choice! but I don't want to be punished for the rest of the game for taking a city or two off the hands of a neighbor who picked a fight with me).
 
When someone steals gold from me it’s always some insane number like 3,000, but my gold doesn’t actually go down. Where is the gold they steal coming from?

In another thread, someone said that if you pay attention, your gold is being siphoned each turn (you aren't getting as much incrementally per turn as you think), but I haven't confirmed this myself.
 
I want to minimize, which I can do. Lots of ways. But, it is still running graphics at full speed. 90% GPU. And 25% CPU.
Is there a good way to switch away from Civ and get resource usage reduced?
