Actually, I thought "ribbing" originated in the 50's or 60's...

I dunno. Still, worst thing I've heard is somebody who calls a water/drinking fountain a "bubbler" in the US.

I've never heard a single person in the US call a water fountain anything else than that (or drinking fountain), and then crazy rhode islanders come along (all 3 of them that live in that tiny state).
