Republican Bidens and the Failure of the Democratic Party

The US has never really been out of irregular/hybrid regime territory, but we're definitely regressing back closer to how things were before 1965.

Well the were on the low end of the free and open metric.

They're on the high end of hybrid regimes now due to scale of gerrymandering.

I've been chuckling to myself since posting my reflections on the poll that I am perhaps a single-issue voter, with my single issue being: what say we keep this whole "experiment in democracy" going for a while longer, eh?
That might have been the single issue that created record turnout in 2020, both for and against Trump. More voters than ever before in US history wanted Trump to stay POTUS... but conversely even more than that wanted Trump out of office.
But remember 1/6 had at least the theoretical possibility of keeping him in office. There may well be random violence at some particular state capitol or whatever, but what would that accomplish? Here's how I think we should think. Trump and his Eastmans have had four years to think about things. I bet they've centered in on some new vulnerability in our election system, and are preparing there intervention for that spot.
I guess my point is that Trump and his supporters didn't accept the result of the election last time. So why would we expect them to accept it this time? That's one of the inherent flaws in characterizing the current prosecution(s) of Trump as "election interference" and similar. The people already decided. The people voted him out. Trump and his supporters rejected that result and tried to overthrow the government. He shouldn't even be allowed to run again, let alone hold office.

If our election system was working properly he would have been disqualified and we wouldn't have to worry about what new way he is going to try and break the system and whether its going to work and how to stop/outsmart him. The clear solution was disqualification, but our SCOTUS failed us... even putting aside that the Justices he appointed not only decided not to recuse themselves from presiding over a case involving the eligibility for office of the person who appointed them, but on top of that, then decided in his favor.

Recusal or no, he should have been disqualified. The Court could have held that states cannot disqualify candidates from national elections based on the 14th Amendment, but Congress and SCOTUS can do so, then held that Trump is disqualified, absent an act of Congress under the 14th, to allow him to run/serve. And that would have been the end of it. In fact, the backlash over disqualifying him may have been lessened by him being disqualified by the Justices he appointed. It would have been the ultimate display of independence by the SCOTUS. It would have been a legendary bolstering of the Court's credibility that would have lasted for generations. They had a historic opportunity and they blew it.

I can't pretend that I had high hopes that they would disqualify Trump, I was pretty cynical/pessimistic throughout, but still... its what they should have done.
The good minds on CFC should try to outsmart him and figure out what that would be.

Ok, good minds on CFC, what would that be?

Edit: my own answer came to me pretty shortly after posting the question, but I'll let others weigh in.
I want to hear it.

I want to hear it.
Some kind of massive, but subtle, disinformation campaign concerning Biden in the weeks prior to the election.

I'll have to work out the details. Not that he's dead. He could put that to rest through an appearance on live TV.

But a leaked cognitive abilities test.

Something that it would take him more than two weeks to stamp out/discredit.

Staged so that it certain early facts are concerning, but uncorroborated. Then something from another quarter altogether that looks like it's not directly connected, but indirectly provides substantiation. Something that, the more you try to stamp it out, the more suspicious you look.

Something similar to the Hur report/statement?

My mind is never as nefarious as it needs to be. But it won't be an actual official report. Just like "audiotape that a whistleblower took" of Biden being administered a cognitive test. The press will be trying to track down the veracity of it all. Never enough clues for them to quite to do so. Or quite rule it out.

Has to be multi-part, though. Has to be a second dimension. Then that second dimension slowly emerges. Some plausible reason for each thing coming out when it does.

Some drugs that could just get him through the election, but with long-term negatives. "Why are we giving him that?" "Just get him through the election, dammit!"

No reference whatsoever to Hunter: Maddow: "Well, we know this can't be a Republican disinformation campaign, because if so, they'd have found some way to link it to Hunter."

People who are identified as being involved, who just don't want to give interviews: "What do they know?"

Cognitive test given only in Switzerland [insert actual country Biden last visited]. "Why were they administering the test there rather than right here in the US?"

Proposed calendar for visit vs actual events of visit. Why was this event left out? Timing marker sets cognitive test at that exact time.

Simultaneously a cardiac report. And the drugs for cognition have a known negative impact on that cardiac condition: "Together they are very concerning"

Like what they tried last time with "Hunter's Laptop," but cleverer and more dispersed little nuggets rather than one thing to pound and pound.

collapsed bridge in the Russia thread: ahah! I knew Russian leadership was screwing up. More proof this war is hurting them and evidence of a Power In Decline

collapsed bridge in Baltimore, USA: hopefully Biden and the democrats will sign this spending bill for $100 billion to pay the pensions of every idiot in Ukraine who couldn’t find work in private industry

Baltimore was a ship hitting a bridge.

Russian infrastructure is even worse and was reliant on western expertise to maintain.

You can go live on Russia they have a surprising ease of immigration if you want to go.

How many bridges does New Zealand have? I think USA has more bridges so I am more of an expert than you. Sorry but I am actually not sorry.

Lots we have very mountainous terrain here lots of rivers.

Pretty much one every ten minutes or so heading north.

More number of rivers. Each one has bridges over it.

They don't generally collapse outside of a lahar or cyclone.

So there’s about 12,000 bridges in New Zealand which is cute but there are 600,000 in the USA. So. Idk I don’t think a New Zealander comes from a country with as many bridges as the USA in my humblest of opinions

Seems pretty nonspecific, like a horoscope. I look forward to the refinements. ;)

Lotsa barges, yah?

Being a student of the political history of this does help with "the end of times panic" response.

There were guys yelling while wearing placards back then, too.

There are actual scary things, but a lot of this is unfortunately mundane. I mean, New York state just brazenly jerrymandered two seats in congress to try and tip the balance. It's how Illinois has been run forever. These are not one offs. Nor does the gamesmanship disappear just because the line being toyed with is supermajority instead of simple majority. The higher line is more dangerous. That starts changing the rules so that it's against the rules for the writers of the rules to lose.

One of the unfortunate things about getting older is that your understandings run farther and farther down the rabbit holes.
Being a student of the political history of this also links to things that do induce panic. I've been around and paying attention nearly as long as you - I've always mocked the folks that routinely describe every presidential election as "the most important one in recent memory" or some such. But even the vibes I was getting when Trump was getting into the primary in 2016, with "if I don't win, it's clearly rigged" pointed to a fundamental problem we have now. And yes, I'm starting to plan for the end of this year being like a regime change; plan D for me is buying a sailboat and heading off toward the southern Pacific expanse to live out the rest of my life while y'all here figure out how to dispose of Trumpism.

Not to belabor the point but both collapses could have been avoided with investment that was not forthcoming because apparently spending money on high explosives used to murder children is more important.

This is just not true.

See this is exactly what I was complaining about pages ago. People are unfairly saying that Crezth loves Russia or something, when its clear she just wants people to treat the two regimes (America and Russia) with consistency! But no, failing to constantly praise how superior America every day means you love Putin.

I don't think it even needs to be anything as fancy or devious as that. Just take the totally inevitable event of Biden getting the flu or has to rest for a few days due to exhaustion, coupled with him getting bundled into a SUV like Hillary was when she got pneumonia, and the "Biden is decrepit" narrative has everything it needs.

This is just not true.

She might not love Russia, but she does love simping for Great Comrade Xi.

No offense, but how do you feel about the idea that these feelings and this realization is only happening to you because you used to be a well-coddled member of an imperial army that considered itself the most moral in the world, and now you’re still that middle class soldaten but you’ve started feeling a little nervous about the “victory to Christ’s armies and may nuclear light overtake the enemies of heterosexuality and manhood” rhetoric which comprises 90% of the political awareness in the voting population.
