There's a clear trajectory though, from the "polite" annexation of Crimea, the black ops in Eastern Ukraine to a full invasion now.

Not hard to predict the future, it's 1938 all over again, except the Anschluss failed.

Small provocations already taking place in Finland and the Baltics. It's just a matter of time.

We are in 1938 now. If Czechs had resisted Nazi Germany at the time, there would have been no WWII. If Ukraine gives up or we give up we will move to 1939.

Well what I'm saying is that the people who actually want this war are also too cowardly to sign up and fight in it.
Exactly. Nobody from the Putin Team in this thread is employed in the invasion/occupation force in Ukraine, as far as I know.

This is the war the Russian government started – it might not have wanted precisely this outcome – but it is what it got. No one else has in any way shape or form wanted a war here, much less this war...

Russia didn't provide choice in the matter. Beyond capitulation. But no one wants that either. So at best what you end up with is the observation that peace at any cost is not what is desired here.

It was tragic stupidity for Ukraine to be suckered into a war they could never win, but the Danes and Germans have turned it into a farce starring Zelenskyy the Mendicant Clown.
You should look for more records than the Russian propaganda narrative. What's the point of trotting out this dead horse again?

Total civilian casualties in 2021
The total number of civilian casualties recorded by OHCHR in 2021 has totaled 110: 25 killed (16 men, twowomen, three boys, one girl and three adults whose sex is not yet known) and 85 injured (56 men, 21 women, six boys and two girls), a 26.2 per cent decrease compared with 2020 (149: 26 killed and 123 injured), and thelowest annual civilian casualties for the entire conflict period.
In 2021, 25 civilians were killed.

The highest number of civilian casualties in Ukraine during the Russian invasion that began on February 24, 2022, was recorded in March 2022, with 4,289 people killed and 3,013 injured.
In March 2022 Russia killed more civilians than the entire 8 years from 2014 to 2021 (3,400).

There is no evidence for ANY future events..

What we have is this Russian government's track-record. And the hindsight Europeans trying to deal with it 214-2022

Little unclear if you simply like Russia for what it's doing, or just hate Europe generally?
Neither. It's Germany's track record. But then again maybe there's nothing to worry about: they're at 0-2 and just gave Ukraine tanks with useless guns, which looks like they are no longer serious players.

Australia unlikely to ship coal to Ukraine despite nation's request for energy aid
The Ukrainian ambassador said the nation had already asked for coal shipments in December, but was asking again because the need had become critical.

"It's not only for thermal power and in terms of heating, it's also for electricity, which is necessary for industry … defence industry, to make sure that we can keep on going," Mr Myroshnychenko said.

"So it's a matter of survival for us in a way."

Ukraine's request in December was not responded to, the ambassador said.

Ukraine has had some good agricultural harvests, but a lot of it was in territory they have lost.

Owing to good weather, combined with impressive farmer resilience, NASA Harvest’s satellite-based analyses have revealed a productive (relatively high-yield) season for the Black Sea region due largely to exceptionally favorable weather. Despite an overall decrease in planted area due to the war, the 2023 season did see an increase in yields and production relative to 2022 for both wheat and sunflower, two of the major export crops in Ukraine. However, a significant portion of this production was harvested in Russian-occupied territories. Dr. Inbal Becker-Reshef, NASA Harvest Director explains, “to put this in perspective, the amount of wheat alone harvested in the Russian-occupied territories in 2023, 6.42 mMT, is higher than what was harvested in the State of Kansas in 2023, the second largest wheat producing state in the US, or the equivalent of roughly 55% of Egypt’s total wheat imports, the largest global wheat importer.” This means that even though yields are up, both Ukraine and global markets are missing out on the economic and food security benefits of this productive season.

If that's not enough to smash their economy, farmers in some of the EU are still blockading the importation of their agricultural products.

Actual news!! Thank you.

Berestovoye, Netaylovo, Umanskoe towns lost by Ukraine in last two days. Fights reported in center of Belogorovka.
Seems like redeploying reserves in Kharkov front worsened the situation in other directions for Ukraine.

I love the interpretation of the results of a US poll in a Kyiv Independent article today.
‘It’s not a pretty picture:’ What a second Trump presidency could mean for Ukraine
While a recent NYT/Sienna College poll indicates that Ukraine is not a top issue for U.S. voters...

LOL. Couldn't they state, that as an issue, the poll shows Ukraine is < 0.5%. Or would that leave no room for doubt?

With 4x more interest and a bigger support to Trump position ("finish the problem"), that poll also shows it was a smart move from Russia to sacrifice the Palestinian population.

Civilian infrastructure? An airport terminal in Ukraine or Russia looks like fair game to me during a war.

Updated: Russian forces hit Zaporizhzhia airport terminal with Kh-59 missile

Russian forces struck the Zaporizhzhia airport terminal with a Kh-59 cruise missile on May 26, destroying the terminal building, Ukraine's Southern Operational Command confirmed on May 27.

No people were injured in the attack, officials said.

Volodymyr Marchuk, an official at the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration, earlier reported in a comment for the Kyiv Independent that Russian forces hit the Zaporizhzhia International Airport, but did not provide details.

Lawmaker Musa Magomedov also reported on the strike on May 26, publishing a picture capturing heavy damage dealt to the airport's terminal building.

Before the strike, an air raid alert went off in the oblast, along with the warning of a potential Russian attack with Kh-59 cruise missiles. Explosions were reported shortly after the warning.

Ukraine's Southern Operational Command confirmed on May 27 that a Kh-59 cruise missile struck the airport terminal.

The Prosecutor General's Office announced that it had opened a criminal investigation into the missile attack, as it targeted civilian infrastructure.

The targeted terminal was opened in October 2020, and has repeatedly come under fire by Russian forces, the Liga outlet wrote.

According to Liga, over half of Ukrainian airports and airfields have been damaged by Russian strikes since the outbreak of the full-scale war.

Ukraine closed its sky for civilian transport when the invasion began.

Ukraine Intelligence (GUR):

Russia has significantly intensified its campaign to recruit foreign mercenaries for the war against Ukraine: it is about recruiting manpower in central Africa, in particular - in Rwanda, Burundi, Congo and Uganda.

A specially created division of the Ministry of Defense of Russia is engaged in the recruitment of Africans for their participation in "meat" assaults on Ukrainian soil.

Mercenaries are lured with an initial cash payment of $2,000 for signing a contract, promises of a monthly security of $2,200, health insurance, and a Russian passport for the soldier and his family members.

Anti-imperialism is of course good, but a well-paid imperialism is way better.
