This is a continuation of my previous thread.

Okay hi guys!

I want to take a virtual vacation and travel the world, visiting you all. My idea is to buy a disposable camera and mail it to another CFC member. That CFC member will take one picture and then forward the camera to the next CFC member. We chain it location to location, around the world, eventually back to me. take an everyday object and take it to a location near where I live. I will take a picture of it and upload it to this thread. I will then mail the object to another CFC member who will also take a picture of it near where they live, and upload the picture to this thread. In this manner, we will chain the object around the world, and ideally, back to me.

Spoiler object :

This is a departure from the original thread so that even if the package ends up in the bottom of the Indian Ocean, we will have all the pictures up until it went missing.

Some ground rules:

1: If your location isn't listed, you'll need to add it to your post. I want to try and keep each mailing step efficient, so we're not paying for postage from London, to Sidney, back to Lisbon.

2: You will need to provide your real name and address to another CFC user through PMs. If you're uncomfortable revealing yourself in such a manner, please do not join! If you're uncomfortable with a specific user knowing your IRL info, PM me and I will make sure they are not the link before you.

3: You are responsible for postage to the next CFC user. This time, I'm also going to ask this time that you ship in a manner that has a tracking number. While I will try and keep each step as short as possible, some members will need to send the package across oceans. This will be more expensive. If you're willing to bear the additional postage to send the camera to another continent, please post as such! We do have a sponsor who is willing to help out with some shipping costs, especially for transcontinental shipping.

4: You will need a digital camera or some other method to upload the picture you take.

Some other things!

Again, we're going to be shipping around a notebook with the object. I need some volunteers with scanners to archive portions of the notebook. You won't need to scan in the entire thing. For instance, if you're the first person to archive, you might scan entries 1-5. The second person will scan in 6-10 and so on. This way, again, if the package ends up in the bottom of the Indian Ocean, we have a record of most of the contents.

I encourage users to mail small trinkets along with the package, both to the immediate recipient and to users further down the chain. Nothing heavy or bulky of course.

Lastly, I want to thank every who appreciated in our first attempt at this. I wish so bad that it had finished.

So who is in again? :)

I'm in. I needed a good reason to acquire a digital camera and scanner (and learn how to use one).

You might want to ask the moderators to post a link to this thread and close the other one; there have been lots of people opting in there.

What kind of object did you have in mind, or is it a surprise?

I'm not positive what I want to use, but it'll be small. I might modify the idea slightly.

If you have a usable address, you don't have to give people a real name. The post office will neither know or care. Though if it's a package that has to be signed for, that's a different story. So be aware of how it is shipped.

I'll be in. Hartford CT USA.

That varies by country and isn't even always true in the US.

I'm in and I'm willing to put up a website for this project with a map. Probably just with a map that's updated each time stuff happens. Maybe more, but probably just a map. I could probably make it so that you can click a link and see what's going on in google earth, assuming you have it installed. I really am not promising anything other than a static URL with a rudimentary dynamic world map on it though. If anyone comes up with an amazing sounding .com we might as well register that too. I would be willing to collect the money for this part of the project by performing in the streets of Canada

It fell off the plane while flying over the Himalayas on it's way to Aussieland from Finland.
or
It fell off the plane in the Australian outback where a dingo ate it.
or
The fins thought it was a russian spying device and shot it with snipers.
or
The fins thought it was supposed to be sent to Santa and sent it there.
or
The fins thought it was supposed to be sent to Santa but accidentally sent it to Satan.

I'm quite sure it's one of those.

Im in. Barcelona is a marvelous city to take pictures.

When is the package supposed to reach Europe? I'm in, but location depends on when it'll get here. Germany if it is before the summer (), Netherlands if after, unknown if it's 2014 or later.

I have a scanner.

I'm in again. Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I can scan pages.

This is a much safer idea. I like it.

I'm in, I'm still in Aberdeen, I would rather not be an overseas sender, but I can offer up scanning services.

Yeah, yeah, same here, I can scan and I'd rather not be overseas sender.

I'm in. Santa Cruz, CA

I'm in Albuquerque NM. Any package leaving here will contain some sand. There is no way to avoid it.

EDIT: I have a camera and scanner and will ship across an ocean if needed.
