While the dry season between May and October is often touted as the best time to enjoy Far North Queensland,
Collins believes preconceptions about the region have done it a disservice.

"Unfortunately people have got a long ingrained belief that if you travel to North Queensland between November
and March that you're going to die from cyclones, heat and humidity, jellyfish, crocodiles, or dengi fever,"
he laughs.

Given that he's talking about a region of Australia, I'd like to know exactly what kind of laugh that was.

@Ferocitus It seems that figuring out the best time to visit Australia is no easy task. Each region seems to differ. Ideally, one would want to swim along the NE coast without jellyfish or skip that and swim along the NW reefs instead. Visit the northern jungles with some sunny days and still enjoy the sights of the SE. Hot would be OK for me. Two trips gets expensive so trying to see lots of the Australia in a single go would be preferred. :(

There's a sentence that can be taken out of context.
that's what she said

c'mon you can't have expected me not to have delivered the punchline

I can only say this : sodium solution for metalic surfaces , acid solution for ceramic surfaces because :
Chemistry. "Chemistry means the difference between poverty and starvation and the abundant life."
read by Mr. Spock in Civ 4 as a quote when discovering tech : Chemistry ;)

Also please note that sodium and acid negate each other ;) So no getting them two together because it's counter-productive ;)

Speaking out of experience .....

On the other hand "the killer" method to get a soar throat out of the way is to take in a tablespoon of baking soda ! Wash it in a "gulp" of water (preferably) or some say vinegar (is acid so I am not sure - counterproductive) / (baking soda negates the acid in the stomach instantly ! -> There's a large "burp" , but relief is felt instantly ;) I've tried it out, and I am still alive :) Still You can buy pills at the chemist's shop but it's entirely up 2 U ;)

I was always told to gargle a salt water solution a few time a day.

If your throat is soaring, you'd better hope the rest of your body is up there with it, or you have bigger problems than needing baking soda.

:mischief:

I wrote my above answer without asking my wife first, but when I did ask her, she confirmed that she plants large bulbs (tulips, daffodils, etc.) at about 8-10 cm, and smaller bulbs (narcissi, crocuses, etc.) at proportionately shallower depths.

She suggested though, that what triggers bulbs to sprout is passing through the cold spell over the winter -- so in Germany they might need to be planted shallower so that they can actually feel it (i.e. if they were deeper, they'd be better insulated from the cold?).

So I'm now not sure if that might have implications for SoCal, where it doesn't get cold (at all!) as close to the coast as you are. So was that depth recommendation specific to your more Mediterranean climate?

Yeah I read that in SoCal I have to put them in the fridge for a few weeks before planting. Some sources say you have to put them in the freezer but that doesn't seem right.

In the end, due to all the conflicting information (online, not from you all), my lack of time to research and the cost of buying all the supplies I would need, I decided to put this off until next year. There is just too much going on for me at the moment, I had hope this would be something I could plant and grow with little effort.

Can someone explain the "Non" poster here (about the recent failed attempt as making companies responsible for their actions):
yes-and-no.png

It seems to be "Don't blame someone for accidentally shooting someone with a crossbow", but that does not seem to be a very good argument.

Not surprisingly, the german part of Switzerland (the only ww2 germans which weren't defeated :P ) cancelled the plan to force better checks on Swiss companies using child labor and ruining stuff abroad.

So the text reads (roughly): "No to this initiative. The intention is good. But not this solution.".
So the good intent is... well, not that this makes sense to me, but basically something "we tried a fun game, but it ended up horrible". Somehow along that, I'd guess.

Ah, so the crossbowman is the legislation? That makes sense.

I've heard it's legal to shoot a man with a bow after 6 PM in Wales . Don't know if it's true though. Apparently someone forgot to erase the "Mad king's" laws in Wales .

It is not quite true, the actual law was:
“…all manner of Welsh persons or Welsh sympathies should be expelled from the city [of Chester]; that no Welshman should enter the city before sunrise or tarry in it after sunset, under pain of decapitation.”

Yeah, but this was for a few years from 1403, so was probably not the greatest human rights violation around then.

That poster's from Switzerland, right?

So the crossbowman's William Tell (=Switzerland), presumably after having accidentally shot his son (=those benevolent Swiss corporations) in the head.

I have an original model xbox 360 (component RGB cable only, no hdmi). Are the adapters that convert to HDMI any good, or should I buy a used version of a newer model 360 that has HDMI output available?
