Can someone suggest me some PC games which stimulate the right hemisphere of the brain? I tried playing real time strategy games, because they require multi tasking a lot, but
I'm not into war games at all I found out.

Something with a lot of going at the same time, but without any killing/hurting/destroying etc.

Isn't right hemisphere more about art and not strictly defined thinking patterns? For strategy games you'd be primarily using the left side.

If you want a fast game which is about memory, deductions and speed, you might like Among US. You can organize stuff according to the hard facts/progressions (number of tasks, safer spaces) and short and mid-term memory is also of use to deduce who is the enemy.
Turn-based games like civ have the issue that the Ai simply cheats at higher difficulty, while something which is only against other human players levels the field and makes skill more important imo. Although maybe some people have already created good bot players for it.

Another idea is to try AOEII online.

Wasn't Braid supposed to be sort of that way?

Yea, right hemisphere is about multi-tasking and art/ creativity.

I actually bought Aoe2 DE recently and after some weeks realized that all the bloodbath going on on the screen totally turns me off. I was surprised, because 10 years ago I loved the game.

@Farm Boy

Braid looks like a very interesting concept, but platformers to me seem like a mechanical check - if you have agile fingers you can do these. I have spent a lot of time playing Dead Cells which don't require much problem solving, but is super fast and unforgiving. I don't see any connection with multitasking, however.

Lol, Papers Please, then. ;)

Anyone know a light/low resource-ram screen-saver (with VIDEO saving, not just single image) program I can download for free? :)
After this post, I installed and tested FFmpeg and it was trivially easy to capture the screen while a streaming TV service was running using the command line here. I did it lossless and it did not seem to challenge my laptops resources.

The Bloons series, maybe.

That looks like Linux voodoo and I am not sure how to install it for windows :D
There are downloadable exe's for windows, but I cannot make those infernal machines work so cannot really comment.

Another great unsolved mystery from the Middle Ages, one that's right up there with Erdstalls. :)

Who the hell were the Cagot and why the incredible hatred towards them that lasted for centuries?

Cagots were shunned and hated; while restrictions varied by time and place, they were typically
required to live in separate quarters in towns, called cagoteries, which were often on the
far outskirts of the villages. Cagots were excluded from political and social rights. They were
not allowed to marry non-Cagots, leading to forced endogamy, and were not allowed to enter
taverns, use public fountains, sell food or wine, touch food in the market, work with livestock,
or enter mills.

The repression lasted through the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Industrial Revolution, with the
prejudice fading only in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Is there an online business that will sell me a fake trophy/award/plaque type thing that I can customize? I beat a friend in fantasy football (Euro edition) this summer, and I want to write out our guesses and how many points we got for each one, then at the bottom proclaim myself champion. I want it to look like a proper plaque you can put up your wall, or rather she can put up on her wall, to be forever reminded of this glorious feat of mine.

Is there anyplace that will do this that ships to Canada? A trophy with an inscription isn't what I'm after, but it might do as a plan B. So I'm flexibleish

Almost every city of any size has a trophy shop. I'd think you could get this done locally. They do plaques, and will engrave them with whatever content you direct.

If you want to go online, I'd Google "Online Trophy Shop" !

Do you want an actual physical plaque that's customized for this exact event? If there's a trophy or sport-themed business in your municipality, you can probably get one customized exactly the way you want it.

I've just done a preliminary search on Etsy Canada. There's no shortage of people willing to do customized plaques, but the prices vary by quite a bit. Keep in mind that some who offer lower prices may not include shipping in that. Others that seem higher priced may have shipping as part of it - it will be made clear by each vendor what their shipping policies are. Not all U.S. or UK vendors ship to Canada. Also keep in mind that Canadian vendors, depending on which province they're in, may charge GST/HST (GST only in Alberta; we don't have provincial sales tax here).

What price range are you looking at, and what shape/form/material?

I was thinking of a price point that seems to be lower than all the websites I've found that will engrave something on a plaque. The thing is that it doesn't have to be necessarily engraved, but I'm not really sure what's out there. It would be fun if I could somehow frame a printout maybe of all the games we guessed in the contest (30-40ish), with like a checkmark of the winner for each one, and a tally at the bottom. That seems like maybe too much for a plaque to begin with, so maybe I am looking for something else.. but I'm not quite sure what.

That's sort of how imagined this, but the more I think of a simpler engraved plaque, the more I like the idea! It could be a 2nd place award.

Originally I wanted to include all the scores because we basically had an informal contest between the two of us, and I said I was going to eventually tally all the scores. When the tournament was over though, it was clear that I won the whole thing, so we just sort of forgot about it. So it would make a fun unexpected christmas present.. but now that I think about a plaque more.. maybe I just need to find a soccer themed one or something. I guess I'm up to spending $50 on this after all? Maybe more. I'm not really sure. I asked here in case anyone knows of any unique websites that specialize in satirical plaques or something like that

Here's an online outfit:

Don't know that they ship to Canada, but by looking at their plaques tab, you can get the sense that, for your price point, you can get a 10x13 plaque with 40 characters engraved.

Again, I suspect your local trophy shop will be willing to do at least that much for you for a similar price. I twice got an award at work and they use a local jeweler who also does this kind of work, though I'd guess that jewelers would charge more for this kind of thing than would a trophy shop. Shop local for this kind of thing. The satirical dimension is all up to you. They'll engrave what you tell them to on the plaque.

Your bigger problem is not sourcing:

Spoiler :
Your bigger problem is that your friend is not going to mount this on her wall!

Here's an option that occurs to me. In American football (but I'm sure other sports as well) there are special trophies for particular rivalries. One that amuses me is Floyd of Rosedale, a bronze pig that goes the the winner of the Minnesota-Iowa football game each year. Beneath the statue is who won it each year. And that team keeps it for the year. Do the same for this rivalry. Make the plaque. Record which one of you won it each year. Then add a new entry each year. You'll see that there are plaques designed for that (to add a new employee of the year each year, e.g.) Then she'll be happy to display it the years she wins. Or maybe your deal is that each of you has to mount it in his/her house in the year that person loses. (Since that was your starting notion for the plaque).

That sounds expensive (the amount of engraving, as it's usually charged by the letter, or at least a specific number of characters/line).

What I can do is give you the results of my Etsy search and let you try your own search, since you have a better idea than I do if you want this done on metal, wood, or whatever.

If this were something I was doing, I'd probably do some kind of certificate on paper. There are all kinds of printer paper styles to choose from - there are likely a few in "award" themes. In that case you could design it yourself like a small poster, print it, have it laminated, and then your only really expensive decision would be whether or not you want it framed. If this is something that sounds more doable, I'd suggest going to Staples (or whatever other stationery store you have that deals with office-style projects) and having a look through their fancy printer paper for a design that you could work with. Staples does on-site lamination, though same-day costs more.

Anyway, here's the Etsy search I did: Etsy customizable plaque. I didn't refine it further as I don't know what style or materials you want.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea. Maybe I can just mock up an official looking certificate and get it framed or something.

I think she actually might  But it's possible it might end up on the wall in the bathroom or set aside somewhere.

Thanks for the added ideas!! I have stuff to think about

I like this too! It would be tempting to get a small stanley cup lookalike that you can do that to, and expand it as the tournaments go by.

This is the first or second time we've done this sort of thing, so I don't know if it's going to continue though. And in a way I don't like making my friend feel she'd then have to pay to engrave the next entry, etc. But I do like the concept

Is is reasnoble these days to say to someone that they look good?

I was reading this from the grundiad, summed up with this quote:

Approving comments about my body read as code words for ‘Congratulations, more and more men that you don’t know will want to have sex with you because of how you look now.’ And that, if you can believe it, is not a significant objective of mine.
I am male, and I am sure the issues are different for different genders, but loads [I say loads, I mean a handful, which is a lot for me] of people have said to me over the last couple of weeks that I look good. This is after starting coming in to work, losing a little bit of weight and growing a big beard. I do not take it to mean that loads of women will want to have sex with me, though I wish it did. I do not say losing weight = looking good as I have known too many people for whom it has meant serious disease, but if someone really looked good I may tell them so, and do not usually get a negative response. What do people here think, should one never make such a comment? Or is it OK, but only certain situations such as if it directed at obvious effort? Or is it always good and people should not take it the wrong way?

Well, you can try telling them they look bad. After all, that won't mean people they don't know will consider having sex with them :)

Imo, unless we are talking about something really creepy (said with some strange smile/tone etc), I think it's a bit too entitled to be dismissive of positive comments. Afaik virtually everyone would want to look good.

Well, for sure don't tell this woman you quoted!

Yeah, it's become dicey. I have pretty much given up saying that kind of thing. It's become too loaded. Like imagining the future romantic activities of present-day seven-year-old girls.
