If it's your friends, why not just ask?
If my friends invited me to e.g. do some wine testing at home, I'd assume that everyone brings a good bottle or 2, and you try them together.

I don't want to be the only one asking questions, know what I mean? :shifty:

I think I'll buy some scotch and bring it! Then if I'm the only one who brought scotch, at least I'll look like a boss. Assuming I end up buying something good

You dont need to bring something good to a tasting, more something different.

Just make sure that you are meant to take something, so that you don't look like you're the only one competing with the host.

Cheese. Cheese goes with everything.

I have no idea, but cheese is still the answer to everything.

Chocolate goes with everything.

Nice. I am def going to bring some cheese. There is a grocery store on the way to my friends where I can probably find a bunch of overpriced imported cheese. I can probably ask one of the nice ladies behind the counter if they can recommend anything that will pair with a scotch.. but.. I suspect they might look at me blankly and not know. Might as well try though.

Does what they're saying about whiskey apply to scotch? Half their cheese writeup is about whiskey

Scotch is just whiskey made in Scotland. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.

What pairs best with Scotch?
Me.

lol what.. Is that all there is to scotch? What a letdown!

That's like calling Vodka made in Finland Findka and pretending it's not vodka but something better

A pair of scotches, you say? Why sure!

No, warpus, Scotch whiskey is the best whiskey.

In just the way that rectangles are better than other squares.

It's called Scotch whisky. What else would you expect it to be other than whisky from Scotland?

That said, when it comes to whisky/whiskey (as well as other many spirits, such as rum), different places have different traditions in how exactly it's made and the ingredients used, so there will be general trends which distinguish Scotch whisky from, say, Irish whiskey, or Bourbon whiskey (and do note the spellings....) - though there are several individual traditions within Scotland that further vary flavours. Islay whisky is particularly distinctive (personally, I think it tastes like an ashtray, but my dad loves it...). Additionally, there are various legal requirements that must be met in the UK for a Scotch whisky to be allowed to call itself such, so there's at least a minimum quality that all scotches will have.

Wouldn't it be that squares are better than rectangles?
