Toilet lid, (not seat) when toilet is not in use as a toilet, should be kept up or down?

Poll coming. The two women I live with disagree with me.

Whatever downtown decides.

Does it bother you? Keep the bathroom door closed, those places always get you a draught.

I am always offended at other peoples' homes when their toilet lids are up, and I always leave them down. Like a civilized person. Even if I was not in the toilet room for toilet use. COME ON PEOPLE.

Except during the act of flushing the position of the lid makes no difference at all. It isn't like the toilet is full of jumping beans. At least not usually.

Single man who lives on his own (I know that might be hard for some of you to believe), but that sucker stays up.

Seat stays down, lid stays up. I imagine the answer here has something to do with the type of toilet being used. Americans typically have those disgusting sucking toilets with high waterlines, and I wouldn't really want that stagnant pool on display. You don't encounter the same problem with a proper toilet.

down. always down.

In my observation women can be separated in three toilet types-
Lazy lady: Leaves the lid up because it's the thing that requires least effort
Neat-nick: Closes the lid so the bathroom appears tidy
Germophobe: Leaves the lid up to minimize hand contact with toilet

Lid goes down. There's a lid. Why wouldn't you use it.

Lid goes down in cases you have a small kid in the house. Or a shower in the same room and you take your undies off, close the lid, place those undies on the seat and collect them on exit. Otherwise open lid shows that toilet is clean and inviting. Plus it minimizes your interaction with a toilet -- you don't need to open and close the lid every time you go there. Who wants to touch the toilet 4-5 times a day? Hands free toilet and precision bombing all the way!

This. Lid goes down for flushing, goes up when something needs to go into the toilet.

Same for seat. Seat goes down if I need to sit or put the lid down, goes up if something else needs to go into the toilet.

I put the lid down when I need to sit on it to put my socks on. I always leave the lid in the last place I put it until a particular need makes me change the position. Flushing is never an excuse to put the lid down.

You might want to look for "toilet flush plume" videos. Or you might not. If you are committed to this not putting the lid down you probably don't.
