where to begin , where to begin ? Perhaps with Al Crusading , the English edition naturally , now that ı don't know Arabic . Now that the thing is long standing that anyone deployed there should know he will have his citizenship to the loser Turkey annulled , the deals not voted since February 2015 , when they were quickly passed through relevant commissions . I cannot find it back, but earlier this year, at least several weeks ago, before the Trump visit, there was leaked WH info where withdrawing from the Qatar airbase was discussed.
That makes the current Qatar issue less of a sudden surprise.
At the start of the Qatar issue I thought that it would be neutralised by the US because they already had discussed it through and dismissed it.
But now I start wondering.

Those 11,000 won't suffer poverty and famine, because of a blockade, unlike the country's population.
Current events would cast a shadow of doubt on such a capability of his to do long-term planning.
I too doubt that he is himself capable to any long term planning needing brains.
My gut feeling is that he has a very small scope of anything he does with a lot of minions to sort out "the details" and make it happen.
But that small and simple agenda he treats very focussed.
He has always been in the financial position to have all kinds of educated, sophisticated, experienced minions with brains working for him.

Slightly off topic, but as anyone studied Iran-Arab relations enough to know why the Arab nations are so uniformly hostile toward Iran? I realize there's ancient racial tension between Arabs and Persians, not to mention religious differences, but did the Revolution and the establishment of a Shiite government have something to do with it?
I believe it's because the Iranian Shiite government apparently persecutes Sunni Muslims, angering Sunni based states like Saudi Arabia.
I should mention that I am not much of a middle eastern scholar, but I recall reading that somewhere.

Part of it is lingering ethnic/religious splits, but basically the whole reason it far more hostile than, say, Scottish/English splits is the Iranian Revolution. Prior to the Revolution Iran was officially secular and nationalist, so the Saudis and Gulf Princes didn't really view Iran as a competitor. (Plus, the Shah and the Saudis bonded over gaudy luxury.) After the Revolution, Iran became officially Islamic and a Republic. The combination of what was presented as democracy, civic mindedness, and religious asceticism was quite an attractive ideology for those living under the plutocratic, autocratic, and hypocritical Saudis and Gulf Princes. During the late 70s and early 80s the Arabian peninsula was quite a volatile place. An armed truce between North and South Yemen, the British withdrew most of their forces from the Gulf Princes, the seizure of the Grand Mosque by an apocalyptic Islamic cult, anti-monarchy riots in Saudi Arabia; and along comes the Islamic Republic of Iran which in deed and rhetoric is completely against everything the Saudis stood for. Far easier for the Saudis to blame the Iranians and their "Islamic Republic" than address the problems at home. It isn't much of a surprise that the Saudis would ally themselves with the Saddam and bankroll his war against Iran. Likewise, after the destruction of the Iraqi invasion of Iran and the Iraqi use of poison gas, it isn't surprising Iran would be more than a little hostile toward the Saudis and Gulf Princes.
Short version: Saudi Monarchy saw Iranian Republic as threat to their existence, fearing that people would prefer a Republic over a Monarchy.

When did that all end in our western world ?

There is a theory that the less the total economy of a country is made by her citizens,
and the more a government makes the economy by for example gold & diamant mines, oil, cocaine trade, etc
the less need there is for a government to get the buy in from her citizens by a true democracy.
Enough (debatable) examples in the Middle East and Africa.
But the nicest example I know is the principality Liechtenstein, between Switzerland and Austria, which has no 100% democracy like in the western world and very satisfied citizens.
The power in Liechtenstein is truly shared between the hereditary monarchy and the people.
The income from Liechtenstein was until recently enormous from her tax haven position and the Prince used that money to ensure a job and an income for all her citizens in an almost socialist paradise way.

I think that the absolute monarchies in the Middle East will stay in power as long as they can secure that costly "buy in" of her "own" citizens accompanied by a good military to surpress enlightened citizens that go to fast and to extreme towards democracy.
And that religious wars will continue until the islamitic world has developed her own kind of enlightenment.

Unfortunately, becoming a tax haven is not a viable option with all these ethics going around and getting people's heads.
EU has recently stopped the big abuse by Liechtenstein.
But the mechanics functions I think.
Meaning that the oil of Nigeria will not help democracy there
And the oil of the Middle East will not help democracy there
etc.
Also the growing income differences in some of the classic democracies will imo undermine the quality of the democracy and increase autocratic behaviour of leaders.
