Unit Concept Development/Preview: African Pikeman

After looking at Dom Pedro's flavor units project I was inspired to make an African pikeman, it would replace the normal pikeman for the Zulu.
I'm using Kal-el's concept sketch for the model (completed...mostly) here's the sketch -

And here's the preview of the model -

If anyone has a good elephant/rhino skin texture please post it, the one I'm using isn't very good. Any suggestions or comments, would be very much appreciated. I want the model to be as good as possible beofre I animate.

I'm actually working on a Zulu Spearman (because I use the Impi as a Swordsman replacement), so it'll be nice to have a Pikeman unit to upgrade to.

As for pics have you seen Kal-Els awesome African concept art Its great that someones finally doing some non-color conversion african units especially with the sudden flood of great african leaderheads

No problem Im just glad that someone is going to do that awesome unit. But I dont think Kal-Els gonna be around for a while because he said he was going into training or something to do with the military and wont be back until around Christmas Hopefully Im wrong and he'll notice this before he leaves though.

Well I don't think Kal-el is around anymore so I'll attach a labeled sketch and some I know what it'll look like and some I'm gonna need your help and input to decide what to do.
Heres the list

1. Leopard skin, yellow and brown
2. not sure what this is supposed to be, input as to what animal (or other thing) it is and what colours/textures would be appreciated
3. I'm thinking this will be fur, maybe white, suggestions?
4. couls be the same as #4 but not sure, suggestions?
5. not sure what it should be, maybe white leather?
6. suggestions?
7. black leather most likely
8. possibly biege fur?
9. not sure what is over his feet but I was thinking just bare skin with sandals?
10. suggestions?

From what I can make out of the picture, I believe those are gold bands around his legs, and sandals on his feet. Hope I've been helpful

2. I was thinking probably rhino/elephant hide
3. Yeah probably fur of some type
4. I'd say that 4 and 5 are probably a gold band around his arm
6. probably iron gauntlets but maybe made of rhino/elephant hide
7. I agree with Sword of Geddon its probably just a gold band around his legs
8. Yeah most likely beige fur
9. It looks like they are just sandles with some protective covering on top
10. I have no idea what that might be but maybe it could be made tho be the civ-specific color area?

Suggestions on civ colour?

Awesome! Maybe rather than where you have the white lining, that could be the civ-colored area?

you mean the biegeish area around the waist/belly (labled #10)? that was what I was thinking but do you think that would be enough? especially for the side views?
Or do you mean the trim?

I meant the trim actually. But the belt area could work too. (Man, I will Kal-El had indicated civ-color in his sketches).

First post updated with possible civcolours, I made some trim civcolour, the belt thingy, and the sandals. suggestions?

I'd say it all looks good except the sandals. That just looks a little odd. Also, why are they such a brighter blue than the other civ-specific areas?

Howcome it looks like he's put his Clothes on back to front?

6 are white for me. As 8 (Lion fur?), 9 and part of 2.

More white would definitly be good for this unit

It's an old African custom to wear one's clothes backwards... as popularized and revitalized by the 1990s hip hop group Kriss Kross.

My Suggestion: If possible, id make the fortify animation look like the pose of Kal-El's drawing. Also, make the Civilipedia picture in that pose to.
