We've still got more Polynesian units to crank out!! :whipped:

I found this puppy at the Mariners Museum in Newport News, VA. Apparently, this is the concept work for it though it was never actually built.

Could fit nicely between the Hokulea and the Polynesian Frigate... :D

Polynesian Units in existance so far include the Voyaging Canoe, the Polynesian Warrior, and Aaglo's Frigate. It would be nice to see this and the Polynesian Swordsman get made. BTW.......How was your vacation DP? We've missed your pressence on these boards.

Vacation was good. Virginia's an interesting place... lots of cool things to see and do there.

Polynesians are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they have a very distinctive style of ships, and as such, it's easier to make a ship look distinctly Polynesian. On the other hand, using generic ships then becomes more difficult and they stick out like sore thumbs.

I'd also like to see some of the new trimaran designs that modern navies are trying because they could then be applied to the Polynesians. But I'd also like to see an industrial-era battleship trimaran as well. That'd be cool.

Some one needs to do the Samoan Clubman as well. That dude is neat looking. And fat.

All right, critical mass. And perhaps someone could convince Rita Poon to do a Maori leaderhead.

BTW, in neither Kal-El's drawings, nor in other discussions have I seen suggested the genuine long-hafted axes nor the long-bladed spears that the Maori sported.

Also, if someone is to do a new Polynesian foot unit, his victory or fidget anim ought to include a haka performance.

How many was this craft intended to seat? And what's the scale? It reminds me of the Micronesian raft that's already been made... only, canoe-ish.

Unfortunately, there wasn't any information on the scale, but it looks to me like it's substantially larger than the Micronesian raft which only seated one.

I would imagine it probably seats upwards of ten quite possibly more. I can tell you enough that the area towards the back which might look like it's supposed to be a seat is actually a covered canopy with pillars... the command center of the boat basically.

I would imagine that since this was never completed that it's actually a beefed up version of something like this which was:

Another interesting idea for a Samoan war vessel is this:

Or this:

And this could make a very awesome later era Polynesian ship with some modifications... a frigate maybe? Then I can move aaglo's first unit to a galleass flavor...

That last one would be a good Late Galleass, which is a predessor of the Frigate.

Basically Unit lines for ships SHOULD look like this:

War Ships:

War Galley-Galleass-Late Galleass-Frigate-Iron Frigate-WW1 Destroyer-WW2 Destroyer-Modern Destroyer

Medium Warships:

Ironclad-Early Cruiser-Cruiser-Aegis Cruiser

Heavy Warships:

Heavy Galleass-Ship-of-the-Line-Heavy Ironclad-Dreadnought-Battleship

So far for Polynesia, we've got the Voyaging Canoe(Galley) and the Polynesian Frigate(duh!).

For land units, theres the Polynesian Warrior by Utahjazz, and Kal-els conscipt art for the Samoan Clubman and Polynesian Swordsman.
