Well, Iran does seem to like Nuclear weapons a lot, so I guess giving them what they want by dropping one somewhere in Iran would be a gift to them.

Well, the U.S. seems to be a big fan of nuclear weapons, so detonating all the nuclear weapons of the U.S. on their own cities would give them the fireworks they apparently want.

Humor aside, we aren't nearly serious enough about non proliferation. Considering the potential costs of proliferation, and/or biological weapons initiatives, we don't invest anywhere near enough political capital, blood, or treasure in preventing these things from spreading.

Honest question: How many dead Americans would preventing the spread of nuclear weaponry to a non-nuclear-armed state be worth? I'm guessing way more than people would like to admit. And if it's "worth" a lot of dead Americans, it's also probably worth a lot of dead Greeks, or Iranians, or North Koreans, or dead whoeverthehells.

Because it's damn rewarding and enjoyable? When I was younger, I would go up to my controller and ask permission to come in on some Saturdays.

But, I'm betraying my prejudices here, I'll be bound. For me, pay is the compensation I get for doing something I wouldn't otherwise do. I've never felt this was a good attitude. Though I think it's how most people think of their work.

History actually suggests that nuclear weapons do not get used. So it seems quit risky to speculate that the US has the moral duty to mass kill people so to better enforce non-profiliation.

I wouldn't say I get paid "astronomical sums" (at least not yet ). The issue is in magnitude of the impact of the work. If I were to make advisements that save a company tens of thousands of dollars then I will be bringing about greater value and will be compensated more than an exact same person putting in the exact same effort and intelligence to best handle a team of 10, saving a company hundreds of dollars.

It's not really fair, but that's kind of the way the world works.
