What word do you use for pop normally? Why do you use the word you do? Do you think any word for pop can be considered objectively better than another? Personally, I call pop "pop" to assert my Midwestern identity, particularly against those who would deny Ohio her place in the region. We still call our pop pop, and we still drink it in unhealthy quantities.

so-da

Onomatopoeia isn't classy.

My grandfather is called 'Pop'.

Soft drink. People would know what you're talking about if you said 'fizzy drink', but that's not in fashion. Soda, coke and tonic are actual specific drinks.

Fizzy drink. Though I usually call it by whatever specific fizzy drink I'm talking about. So I'd say "I'll have a coke/pepsi/dr pepper/orangeade/lemonade/cherry coke/rubicon/etc"

Pop! I mean what other sound does it make when you open it for the first time? Still laugh at other people call when they call it a soda. Gey!

I'm amazed . So in some parts of America you use Coke as a generic term for non alcoholic carbonated sweet drinks ? You learn something everyday .

I thought we were talking about cola when we voted, I call both Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola along with generic colas coke, but I'd never call Sprite coke it's soda

I'll go out of my way to say "pop" if I want to play up my midwestern-ness for some reason. Otherwise, I'll just call the beverage buy the brandname.

Generically, "soda".

Soda. Objectively the only proper word for it.

Soda. "pop" is very rarely used around here. Soft drinks is only used formally, and not in conversation.
