3 issues I noticed about poll.

Stalin is overhelming, but it is nothing special as he once said: "The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic"

I wonder who voted for Barack Obama as a worst commie, while you can/may think that I am and you voted so (5 persons), because you do not know me, but how someone can think that Obama is a commie?

Stalin. But seriously, Marx's whole 'worker's revolution' is a dumb idea.
So a society based on liberation from oppression and slavery is a bad idea?

If Obama is a commie, he is doing a very bad job at it.

Marx was not the first person to call for the resolution of the "Social question" and certainly not the last. What he really deserves recognition for is his study of 19th century political economy.

Apocryphal.

I suppose it's kind of an IQ test. You passed.

But seriously, folks, it's not just about the mass murder sweepstakes. Most of these communist dictators turned their countries into hellholes, paranoid starvation states, or People's Republics of Getmeoutahere. Low standards of living, harsh punishments, unrewarding lives, desperate escape attempts to the West. I hope there is a God so I can thank him for being born in a Western Democracy, warts and all.

If any of you can read books without pictures, I recommend Alexandr Solzhenitsyns' books, particularly the Gulag Archipelago, for the taste of life in Stalinist Russia.

This thread makes me want to change my Avatar.

And in what sense is that different from the preceding state of affairs?

I certainly don't intend to fall into that classical Socialist trap of defending totalitarian oligarchies, of course, but let's avoid the Cold War delusion that these nations were sunny utopias before they strung up the red flags. The developing world is and always has been a cruddy place to be for the vast majority of its inhabitants. All that changes is the particular bugger cruddifying it at any given moment.

Why, thank you, but as some people say: "you never knew there so much stupid people until you turned on internet and went to some political forum", but this OT forum at least have it's attitude better than most of mainstream forums in Poland, and well, good moderation also. Thanks for it.

Zhirinovsky is nationalist, and he supported Saddam Husain, what makes him left-leaning a bit also

Wait, what? :crazyeye:

... but *facepalm* I liked Zyuganov on the list as he is more like commies.

Of course he is more like commies, he is Chairman of the Communist Party of Russia.

Pol Pot. By a mile.

And to be fair to Amadeus, Hussein did call his regime socialistic. So did Hitler, but FWIW...

Is Pol Pot even a commie, really? He pretty much had his own nutjob scheme which as best tangentially related to anything Marx ever wrote.
Since when was this thread about Marxism?

Yeah, I mean he's got Putin on that poll. Honestly, the only thing those guys have in common is the OP doesn't like them.

Since when was this thread about Marxism?
Well, in common usage, "Communism" is taken to refer to Marxist or Marxist-derived ideologies, which, while not entirely accurate, was the usage implied by the poll-choices offered.

...And I had assumed that Putin's presence was intended a joke.

I think it's fair to say that Hussein falls on the left side of the spectrum. I'm not saying it to further discredit leftism, I just mean that his regime ran heavily on welfare/state-run economics.

My crazyeyes was that he assigned the attributes of nationalism and support of Saddam Hussein to "leftism," which is nuts because it means everyone from Churchill to Reagan was a "Leftie."

Well, actually, I wanted to say that only aspect he supported Saddam Hussein can make him so a bit, not that he is Nationalist. But also take in mind that most people will always consider Russia as a nation as commie nation, thus also all their nationalists ;)

Some might argue everyone from about Lenin onwards was doing that. But point taken.
