Your Political Compass

I did that once it was almost right in the middle. 0 for the left-right axis and .2 toward libertarian

The "one party state," "Astrology," and "abstract art" questions, as always, are stupid. I game the one party one, because admitting the fact that one guy can more quickly make a decision than one hundred apparently makes you authoritarian.

"Some people are naturally unlucky," also what.

Some questions are more like personal preferences than political opinions. Then again it's been widely established PC needs to change its questions.

Or "Communist" if you want to simplify things.

No, claiming that it's advantageous for someone to be able to ram through a change in policy without having to debate it first and establish a consensus makes you authoritarian.

The question says:

"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."

Dictatorial systems objectively DO have an advantage of speedier decision making over democratic ones. Even the most revolutionary of democrats will admit that.

A better question would be whether the quick speed of a dictatorial or one-party regime made it inherently better than the slower, inefficient process of democratic decision making, really.

However, the question itself can be a bit charged, and I imagine assumes bias on the part of the respondent, because one-party systems in fact CAN have debate. The country as a whole may not be democratic, but an oligarchy often is democratic within itself.

It's not an advantage because implementing decisions without debate is a bad thing. It's a disadvantage.

And implementing debate without decisions is also a bad thing. :p

I was going to mention this, but you seem to have done so in your own post! Dictatorships and one party states are almost never monolithic blocks, politics still exists and still hinders decision making. Instead of a debate between parties, its a debate between internal blocs and factions.

The compass is really biased and too few of its questions actually concern me.

EDIT: It's better than most tests! But it's not something I wish to post in my sig. :)

My fondest memory of PC is that even when I was trying to answer every single question in the most right-wing possible (as part of my May Day prank one year), I still was only able to register an economic score of 8.

It's harder to game than I thought. :p

The graph on that thread is interesting. Though the wording and structure of the test probably has a giant margin of interpretation error maybe it is correct in distinguishing the views of us forumers from elected officials

There's a graph of everypony's results in there somewhere.

It's terribly outdated. At least the one linked in the OP is. It's from before I even joined! And I've taken the test at least twice ever since!

:crazyeye: It is proof that everyone on this site is leftwing libertarians! Dead opposite of Margaret Thatcher. I wonder how the questions had to be answered to get some of those leaders scores since nobody came close to them.

I'm not sure what happened to the old thread, but just for fun I took it again. Pretty much in the same place. Who's surprised? Not me.
