While this is clearly true, it falls so deeply into "well known fact" territory as to be not really worth repeating. When someone says "Sanders is far left" you just have to silently append "as USian politics is measured" and let it go.

The early part of my life I resembled this statement, but shortly after college I proved this statement wrong. Of course as I say to the people who disagree with me on almost everything, I won't change their minds today but month after month of people pointing out how silly that reality shield is and how it fails to fix anything you might just come around.

I'll admit that being a bit of a sci-fi nerd and by extension truly interested in the universe on a scientific level does make me prone to abandon parties that argue about climate change and evolution. Actually in this sense republicans doubled down on stupid in a way I couldn't follow.

It does since I consider myself center-right. So if I am center-right and he is much further to the left than me, then that would place him on the far left. Besides, he self-describes as a progressive and a democrat socialist. So based on his own labels, he would be far left.

Bernie Sanders is not for expropriation of the means of production, universal pacifism and unilateral disarmament, making Greenpeace take over the United Nations, or any other such proposals.

Far-to-the-left-from-me is not the same as far-from-centre unless your own position can be called the centre.

Also important, he calls himself a democratic socialist, which is not the same as an outright socialist (let alone communist) and definitely means that he is not in favour of the dictatorship of the proletariat.

They are not appealing to distinctly different groups of voters. They make distinctly different appeals to substantially overlapping groups of voters.

Just out of curiosity, do you recognize the obvious difference between "I consider myself center-right" and "I am center right"? I'm guessing that you do, since your next statement starts with "So if I am center-right and..."

I mean, we have people here who "consider themselves" independent despite their posting being a continuous stream of GOP shilling nonsense, so basing the position of someone else on how you "consider" yourself may be flawed.

Yes, I know the difference between the two statements. The reason I said that I consider myself center-right is:
A) I am not hyper partisan. I don't automatically side with the republicans. I sometimes agree with republicans, sometimes I agree with democrats.
B) Some of my views are republican (pro life), some of my views are democrat (pro gun control).
C) I also tend to like compromise. I am fine if Congress compromises and makes a bill that comes down the middle. I wish that would happen more often.
D) I am more interested in a president that is competent, intelligent, thoughtful, and inspirational rather than ideological.
