Assassination attempt on Obama

Sadly, you aren't the judge of all jokes. Other people can determine their level of funniness.

Stupid people will be stupid, I suppose.

So how come nobody is really that outraged or surprised over this? I'm getting a "Meh, the white house was shot at, no big deal" vibe from Americans.

Am I just misinterpreting? I swear if this happened 10 or 20 years ago and the white house was shot at it'd be a much bigger deal and everyone would be up in an uproar. Did 9/11 really raise the bar so high on anti-American action that shooting at the white house doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore? Or is everyone just so chill about it because it's Obama and he can handle that crap?
Even the people in the area didn't seem that hyped about it. I drove past the White House a few hours after it happened and didn't see a whole lot of activity.

Honestly, what would you have expected the response to be?

I agree, a building got shot. Not even one person was wounded. Nothing big.

Truth be told, in most respects it is no big deal. It will be punished severely, because it's necessary to discourage such things. But the risk to any person in the White House was really trivial.

But we're also more accustomed to the threats and attempts and the security. The Secret Service protective details are very good.

Obama's life has been under threat since he became a serious candidate for the Democratic nomination. And the quantities of threats he's received are about double what Bush received.

As assassination attempts go, this was a nut with a gun. Not nearly the danger of the guy who shot Gabby Giffords. More of a danger to innocent bystanders than to the intended target.

I don't know, but I guess I expected a more emotional response from ordinary Americans due to the symbolic nature of a guy firing weapons at the white house.

It happened during Clinton's term. Nobody really freaked. In general it's more a return to pre-9/11 values.

OWS Los Angeles held a moment if silence in honor of the shooter today. He is a maniac and hero apparently.

Because I always root for the guy trying to kill the guy that I voted for... :crazyeye:

Why would the OWS people come out against their own guy?

Well, it was a poorly executed plan by a clearly deranged individual, but at least Obama won't be another manifestation of post-Kennedy syndrome.

GW's White House also got shot up.

I think Clinton was the only one who was home at the time.

One thing that puzzles me is why this guy didn't properly register his gun with DC authorities which would have prevented this whole thing. Doesn't he know it's against the law to not do so?

The only mention I can find of this is from a website called "Big Government" run by Andrew Breitbart, the Tea Party's darling.

Not Occupy LA, but Occupy San Diego.

Because the shooter was rumored to be from the Occupy DC group.

Meh, the guy calling for the moment of silence is a looney too and I wouldn't say it was an official statement from the Occupy San Diego group. But where does an 'official statement' from the Occupy San Diego come from when it's a leaderless movement?

Ah, so it was one guy (and the guy next to him with the hat), not the entire movement saying "oh hey, we should do this!" The guy sounds like an idiot. What he suggested confirms it.

But we know that won't stop certain people from trying to spin this into OWS support for terrorist gunning at the White House, as proof of their true and dastardly aims.

Their official statements, such as their political program, come from The General Assembly.
