Brazil v Argentina abandoned as health authorities invade pitch
Argentinian quartet accused of lying when entering Brazil
Match abandoned after 10 minutes by Brazilian health officials

A World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Brazil was abandoned amid farcical, confused scenes after four Premier League players apparently violated Brazilian regulations designed to contain a Covid outbreak that has killed more than 580,000 Brazilians.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso were all on the pitch at São Paulo’s Neo Química Arena on Sunday afternoon when federal police and officials from Brazil’s health agency, Anvisa, took to the field to halt play after just seven minutes.

The three players and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendía, who was in the stands, had reportedly somehow sidestepped Brazilian rules stating that travellers who have been in the UK, South Africa or India during the previous 14 days are forbidden from entering the country, unless they are Brazilian citizens or have permanent residency.

In a statement issued before kick-off Anvisa said it had received reports the four Argentina players, who had flown into Brazil from Venezuela on Friday, had provided “false information” on their pre-flight health declarations. Anvisa called on local health to place the players under immediate quarantine and “prevent them from remaining in Brazilian territory”.

However, for reasons that remain unclear, Martínez, Romero and Lo Celso were all on the pitch when the match against Brazil kicked off. Less than 10 minutes later there were bizarre scenes, as officials marched on to the pitch and brought proceedings to a halt.

“We are being humiliated on the world stage. What is happening is profoundly regrettable,” the Brazilian commentator Galvão Bueno lamented as bemused looking players, including Neymar and Lionel Messi, stood on the pitch waiting to find out if the game would be restarted. Several minutes later it was officially suspended.

The Argentina manager, Lionel Scaloni, claimed that at no moment had his team been told the game could not be played.

The on field hubbub quickly turned into a diplomatic and political storm, as members of Brazil’s opposition wondered why health officials had not taken such a firm line with the country’s far-right president Jair Bolsonaro, who has repeatedly flouted Covid containment measures.

“Let’s hope Anvisa shows the same firmness when it comes to health rules at the events promoted by the president, without masks and vaccines,” tweeted the former head of the lower house, Rodrigo Maia.

Today there was a new ‘march of the stones’.

The first one happened only a few weeks ago. Relatives and friends of people who had died of Covid-19 engaged in a silent march one afternoon, during which they left stones with the names of their dead in front of the official government house downtown.

The very next night all the stones were mysteriously disappeared. During the predictable ensuing outrage, the ‘president’ claimed that the misgovernment had removed them to prepare to build a museum.
They still haven't reappeared.

So today people placed new stones.

I wonder what will happen.
It is reported in local news that demonstrators have been taking turns to keep watch and intend to stay until at least tomorrow. They're also suing to get the first batch of stones returned.

Miyazaki Prefecture updates homepage with mistakenly-titled “Coronavirus Infections Table, lol”
The file temporarily uploaded to the prefecture’s website was mistakenly titled “Coronavirus Infection Table, lol” on the 5th. The civil servant responsible had intended to type “new” but as a consequence of the Japanese language input method part of the filename became the internet slang “lol,” meaning to “laugh out loud.” The prefecture said “that was not our intent. The mistake coincided with an inappropriate expression.”

The novel coronavirus lab only cultured 3 coronaviruses in 15 years, but later in the article scientists cultured 2 from environmental samples at the market?

Different lab, and as it was mentioned, probably a proof of a very, very, very high load of the virus.
I guess :dunno:.

World's first DNA vaccine approved in India, does not require a jab

India has approved a new COVID vaccine that uses circular strands of DNA to prime the immune system against the virus SARS-CoV-2. Researchers have welcomed news of the first DNA vaccine for people to receive approval anywhere in the world, and say many other DNA vaccines may soon be hot on its heels.

ZyCoV-D, which is administered into the skin without an injection, has been found to be 67% protective against symptomatic COVID-19 in clinical trials, and will likely start to be administered in India this month. Although the efficacy is not particularly high compared to that of many other COVID-19 vaccines, the fact that it is a DNA vaccine is significant, say researchers.

“If DNA vaccines prove to be successful, this is really the future of vaccinology” because they are easy to manufacture, says Shahid Jameel, a virologist at Ashoka University in Sonipat, India.

USA had a massive vaccine advantage, now blown past by the EU and Canada, with Japan not far behind, and even Brazil possibly on the path to overtaking. Australia is behind as well. I'm not really sure where we will end up. Seems to be a fair few vocal anti-vaxxers, and I don't know if the Government will actually do proper mandates. But not quite as many crazies as the US.

Why the US is bad? It has millions of people like this. A bunch of people like this here.

there are people in Turkey , now ruled in everything by New Turkey , who pay 2500 liras , under 300 dollars in today's exchange rates , to the doctors to get a fake vaccination record . So that they can get ill or kill others . With their freedom to go around .

I wonder, after the nano Bill Gates stories in vaccins, whether the next conspiracy theory of the anti-vaxxers will be that governments secretly add this contact vaccin into soaps or appropiate skin care products.

When I was long time ago for my turn of conscription in the army the general belief was that the army added camphor to our food to get our libido down.

It sounds like it needs a bit more that being put on the skin:

The challenge for DNA vaccines is that they need to make it all the way to the cell nucleus, unlike mRNA vaccines, which just need to get to the cytoplasm, says Jameel. So, for a long time, DNA vaccines struggled to induce potent immune responses in clinical trials

To solve this problem, ZyCoV-D is deposited under the skin, as opposed to deep in muscle tissue. The area under the skin is rich in immune cells that gobble up foreign objects, such as vaccine particles, and process them. “This helps capture the DNA far more efficiently than in the muscle,” Jameel says. Unusually, the vaccine is delivered using a needle-free device pressed against the skin, which creates a fine, high-pressure stream of fluid that punctures the surface and is less painful than an injection.
I am surprised that nature describes phagocytosis as "gobble" :)

Thanks for the explanation :)

Australia and NZ had supply issues.

How exaggerated is the RT this time round?

Victoria, Australia will ‘LOCK OUT’ unvaccinated people from its economy
https://www.rt.com/news/534078-australia-victoria-vaccinated-economy/

More of a spin on things. Basically they can require vaccination for various jobs as part of health and safety.

They can't force you to get vaccinated you can't force them to employ you though.

Murdoch media empire (eg Fox news) originated in Australia and the right has a huge amount of influence in the media TSO RT is quoting that side of things.

Australia vis even more right wing in a few ways than USA espicially in the media. Fix news is only one channel in USA in Aussie I think the three biggest network s lean right and a good chunk of the newspapers.

The article also talks about being able to enter bars and restaurants only if you are vaccinated, is that true?
Also, what did he mean by a "vaccinated economy"? He said that you'll be able to "participate in that if you are vaccinated".

Two elder WW1 veterans talking:
- Remember those pink tables that they were giving us so that we don't think about women?
- Yeah?
- I think they finally started working.

Interesting theory though.

The bit I wondered about was:

Aussie police granted power to covertly HACK citizens’ phones & alter data
I did think who believes they cannot do that already, but they do not usually announce it. No one keeps private data on an android or apple anyway, surely?

If it is DNA, could it replicate? My first instinct is that there would be a lot more safety issues with DNA (compared to mRNA).
