Creation of 1 off units

I am creating a Conan mod and as a feature I would like to create a 1 off unit , this would for a given civilisation be a heroic figure say a wizard or a monster that appears under certain conditions but cannot be build again.

I don't want it to be a leader as these can build armies etc

I cannort use a item to create a unit as the maximum number of turns between each creation is 100 turns there it is in theory possible to creat multiple instances


Any ideas
 
Well, you can't. There is no way to give a one-shot unit to a civ during the game.

There are work-arounds.

The first, you mentionned it, make a GW pop up the unit every [big number] turns so it don't come more than 2 or 3 times by game.

The second is to give the unit to the civ from the start.

But I don't think neither solution would fit you :-/
 
Make it spawnable by an improvement you can create with a tech then make the following tech make the improvement obsolete. This tech should be cheap and the only possibility so that it is researched soon before another appears.

AFAIK this is the only possibility and much has been thought over this question.

Make the governments have minimal research so the civ just don't stop researching to produce more troops.
 
One other possibility MAY (haven't tried it) be to make that 'one off' unit the 'battle created unit' in the main screen, ie the one done when an elite wins a battle. So make the "Leader" not a "Leader"

One other idea

Start your civs with a King unit, a near useless upgradable King unit. Then when you get the right tech/resource an upgradable King unit becomes available. Make sure you Don't start them with this unit by making a regicide game, but by editing the players. (also the Upgraded King unit should NOT have the "King" AI strategies if you want the AI to use this unit.)
