Decline in OT activity

Most of the western world has made its mind up about gay marriage a while ago, it seems. Outlying and/or backwards American states are the exceptions, no?

I was actually surprised that Australia and a good chunk of Europe haven't gone that way yet.

I don't see how these things fit together. On the one hand several people have pointed out that CFC's distinguishing factor is the possibility of mature interaction and direct personal connections.

On the other hand there seems to be the idea that we need to attract more people with dick pic and babe threads.

???

CFC is a hobby. If people are having fun here, they'll come back. If they aren't, they'll leave and not come back.

Bingo!!

Can't we just...sacrifice a bunch of goats or something?

Personally I prefer chickens, but we could always settle for the random spam advertiser or two

I would suggest sacrificing virgins, but then we might cut out a significant portion of the MRA demographic that is so crucial to legitimate debate.

Thing is, it is actually winding down. It isn't the fait accompli that abolition of slavery is, but as I said earlier one side is seeing 'done deal, yay!' and the other is seeing 'done deal, grim'. It isn't even really being hotly debated in courts, just finalized. The ship has sailed, and people who said things against it that were too heated to recover from are going to mostly impose a time out on themselves. Not that their own views are changed, just that the futility of continuing to debate becomes obvious at a certain point.
Yeah, this is exactly what I'm talking about. An entire modality of conservatism is being shed and we haven't settled on the new one, whatever that is.

Sure, the legality of gay marriage is winding down slowly, but the discussion isn't over until we get the ruling. That doesn't end the discussion of the resulting issues, which we're still seeing (can a restaurant refuse to service a gay wedding) and will continue to see. And to get to my original point, it still isn't justified to tell someone that their position is just bigoted drivel and dismiss it out of hand.

I've purposefully tried to keep out of the gay marriage threads as my own position lies in somewhere in between, and I really didn't feel like defending against those who thought I went too far and those who thought I didn't go far enough.
I agree that it's generally better if we don't categorically dismiss positions based on current social mores, but it's a done deal. TV has decided.

CFC is no fun for me at all.

I'm just here to practice writing English.

And it's not going well, let me tell you.

I have no idea what you're trying to say here. Go home and learn English please!

I haven't really been around long enough to judge. But I remember when I first started having to field quite a lot of what I can only describe as people just plain jabbing at me. I haven't seen any of that in a while.

I've never been super active in the OT community, but I do like to check in regularly. So I'd be bummed out if it ever died.

I may be in the minority, but the quality of this forum has gone up in my opinion.
In most ways, I think so too.

Sure, quality and quantity should never be confused.

But there must come a point where activity declines to the extent that quality is neither here nor there.

Yes, I think there is a positive relationship between quantity and quality on CFC.

which to me speaks volumes.
