Greece - Antiquity Age Civilization

The city-states of Hellas were a constellation of powers, each with a rich history – militaristic Sparta, intellectual Athens, wealthy Corinth, far-off Syracuse. Fractious in their alliances, they were briefly united only once. Though subsumed into the Roman Empire, the Greek cities influenced Roman religion and thought, the math and science of the Islamic Golden Age, and even the founding ideas of American democracy.

I hope we get an ancient Greek leader in the game.

I'm sure Alexander will be back. :mischief:

Also, Greece did get a "writer" in the form of Sappho, so that's a win for me.

I was suspecting that Plato would be the leader, I think they will go for Alexander, anyway. Interestingly, Civ7 Greece has a very similar design to Civ6 Greece. Not that this is a bad thing, Civ6 Greece is one of my favorite civs to play.

First, the list of Greek 'Logios' means there is a sort of Great People in the game, but with specific lists of them for each Civ. Hoorah!

On the other hand, some of these are simply Bizaaro:

Aristotle's (surviving) writings were the basis for Medieval Science. Yes, he wrote on cultural subjects, but it was his scientific stuff, even when wrong, that had the most influence. Should of had a Science Boost.

Plato. "Activated on an Acropolis"? Guys, he FOUNDED the original Akademia outside Athens. Why isn't he activated on an Academy if anybody is?

Quibbles only, courtesy of a degree in Classics with no other practical use. The fact that they managed to get a selection of Civ VI-type Great People ranging from Great Generals to Great Scientists to Great Writers all in the same list is very exciting. Can't wait to see what kind of lists we will get for other Civs exclusive to them and their cultural types.

- And what fun t he Modders will have with this mechanic!

I think Abbasids (scholars), Italy (artists), Portugal (explorers), Spain (conquerors) and Mongolia (khans) are good candidates to receive unique Great People. Brazil could have Bandeirantes as a unique type of explorer, but I think it would be controversial.

If we ever get Tudor England, they seem a shoe-in for unique Writers.

But the point of the Greek example is that the lists can include a variety of equivalents to Civ VI's Great People.

Tudor England, for example, could include not only Great Writers, but also equivalents to Great Admirals, Great Prophets, Great Scientists (Bacon, Grosseteste et al) - all in the same list.

That, I hope, goes for other Civs as well: they should be weighted towards 'typical' Great People as @Xandinho posted, but each could/should also include a Variety of other types - especially since the actual Emphasis of the Civ can be modified by Legacy and other 'carry-over' bonuses from previous Ages to make use of a variety of Bonuses from the People..

There are Great people... but only specific civs have specific lists of specific types (so far only Greece and Egypt)... Rome has unique Commanders, but they don't seem to have names.
This is one of the places that I hope is not quite finished yet, so that we get both named Roman Legatus and more varietal lists of 'specific People' for more Civs.

If nothing else, having the mechanic in the game already should give the Modders a chance to run wild with it . . .

That Logios mechanic seems cool. I feel like each civ will feel more…like the civ in VII, whereas in past games it felt more like a bunch of bonuses, if that makes any sense.

Yes, and the fact that you get to really dive into those bonuses for an entire age in which those bonuses are relevant the entire time.

And then you get to do it two more times with an entirely new civ/set of bonuses for a whole other age.

Historical accuracy or any other arguments be damned, I think this is gonna be a super fun Civ game.

Sadly, we didn't get a leader reveal. I wonder who the leader might be if the Greek civilization is accompanied by a leader? Alexander is the first and most famous choice. Other interesting and new leader choices I would like to see would be Solon, Cleisthenes, Themistocles, Periander, Dionysius I, Lycurgus, Chilon, Cleomenes I, Leonidas I, Agesilaus II, Epaminondas, Philip II, Pyrrhus, Seleucus I or Attalus I.

If they don't pick a political or military leader then Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Herodotus, Thucydides or Archimedes are potential choices.

Also, I think the Unique Civilian Unit should have been named Sophos, alluding to the Seven Sages of Ancient Greece.
